Supporters of coup: 3 Florida GOP members of Congress visit interim Honduras president
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

MIAMI -- Three U.S. representatives from South Florida who supported the ouster of Honduras' president traveled there Monday to meet with the interim government and to pressure President Barack Obama to sanction the upcoming Honduran elections.

It's the second trip there by a Republican delegation in a week and is part of a broader effort to challenge the Obama administration's Latin American policy.

Obama and many world leaders refuse to recognize interim President Roberto Micheletti, who took power following a June coup that ousted Manuel Zelaya. They say the Nov. 29 election will be illegitimate unless Zelaya is restored to power or comes to some compromise with the current government. The Organization of American States has refused to observe the elections.

U.S. Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and brothers Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart, who say they're on a fact-finding mission, are among Republicans who view Zelaya's ouster as a legitimate response to his calls for a referendum on changing the constitution. Such a change they say could have enabled him to run again and remain president indefinitely, just as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has done.

6. I think so too
But I think they'll wait until after the 2010 elections in case they are able to pick a substantial number of seats. They know they cannot beat Obama in 2012 so they will have to move quickly in 2011 with their coup.

9. Their blueprint will be 9/11/73: They must exterminate Congress as well.
They're already trying to paint Obama as Allende anyway. How better than an "Al Qaeda Sympathizer" Lone Gunman in the USAF crashing an F-16 into the Capitol Dome.

11. That certainly is the writing between the lines. These Pinochelettis are a dangerous lot in that
they have no qualms about supporting a military junta that uses death squads and suspends democracy to sustain an elected goverment overthrow.

This is political insanity, truly deranged foreign affairs conduct.
Obama and US policy is being publicly insulted by these Pinocheletti pukes.

And the not disguised message they are promoting is right-wing coups killing leftists is a good thing!

One way to STOP their nonsense is fight back and charge Bush with war crimes:

2. They are not actually "challenging" anything.
If Obama really did not want them to be there, he could find a way to stop them. Or at least SAY something about it.

12. Exactly. We all remember how Pres. Bush personally shackled Pelosi when she tried to go to Syria.

Morbo says: "CHECKS-AND-BALANCES DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT!!!"

Seriously though, as elected members of Congress, they do have the option of going abroad to gather information independent of the President, so long as they do not attempt to speak for the President or the US and only for themselves. This isn't a new issue, it's just been getting more play in recent decades. Maddow made a good point tonight about this Honduran trip. These GOPpers aren't going on behalf of some thought-out policy position, they're going in an effort to distance themselves from whatever policy Obama might have just so come election time they can toot their horns for the rabid-right. I say let them make international fools of themselves. Why should we be alone in enjoying their display of idiocy?

4. Who will succeed Zelaya in January if no new elections have been held?
The candidates were chosen before Zelaya was deposed, and new elections are the only way to ultimately resolve the political crisis.

5. Gosh. I'm so glad that Rahm and his vampire queen, Debbie Wasserman Test, kept
any Democratic contenders from running against their friends, Ileana and the Diaz-Balart muchachos in the '08 elections. They are such good Americans those South Floridians are.

14. Maddow just did a story about Pubs going abroad and telling various countries and bodies not to
trust the U.S. when it speaks on things like the economy, global warming, etc. Obama SHOULD say something and so should Congress. And maybe the D of J, too. We have a pattern, here. They are actively working at home and abroad to undermine the interests of the U.S. government. Maybe it is not at the level of treason, but it sure ain't helping.

And they called Democrats unpatriotic?

We have a very sick minority Party, folks.

15. These people are only representing terrorism
as they have supported their bretheren terrorists in S. Florida. Orlando Bosch, Posada, et. al.

They are not interested in peaceful change, they will legitimize violence against innocent people all over the world, and they have no interests in promoting democracy. They only want a rule of law where where the wealthy right get to murder and terrorize the peasantry on a mass scale as in Colombia. Any facts they find here will be used to support their conclusions that only terrorism can create a form of government which they can support.

16. JEB Bush probably wants to build condos there....
.or maybe set up a million-acre hideout for Republicans during the coming economic collapse.

Hyperbole? Yes. Far from the truth? Not really.

Sprawl politics
Jeb Bush leading land gluttony
http://culturechange.org/JebBushLand.html

Governor Jeb Bush has not used the state's legal framework to limit sprawl. Say one thing and do the opposite could be the motto for Governor Bush's approach to addressing the ravenous sprawl consuming Florida. As The Washington Post observed in 2002, Florida's governors' "growth management efforts have failed for decades, and Jeb Bush's administration has been especially close to real estate interests." A former attorney for the state, Ross Burnaman, summed it up: "Jeb and his lieutenants are by and large selling the state out."
