Limbaugh submits bid to buy St. Louis Rams
Source: NBC Sports

In 2003, Rush Limbaugh had a brief dalliance with the sport he loves, spending a month as the "voice of the fan" on ESPN's pregame show before resigning after a delayed reaction to comments made regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb triggered a firestorm.

Since then, the mega-rich Rush's name has bubbled up from time to time as a potential owner of all or part of an NFL team.

And it could be coming to fruition.

Charley Casserly of CBS reports that, of the three groups that submitted bids to buy the St. Louis Rams, one group includes Dave Checketts and Limbaugh.

It's unknown whether the bid includes the 40 percent owned by Stan Kroenke, or the 60 percent currently held by the two children of the late Georgia Frontiere.

Checketts previously seemed to complain that his interest in buying the team wasn't being taken seriously, perhaps because at the time he was the only buyer willing to commit to keeping the team in St. Louis. Now that three groups have submitted proposals under the condition that team won't be moved, Checketts and Limbaugh (and whoever else is in the group) might have a chance.

Any sale would have to be approved by 75 percent of the league's current owners.

They will stay in St. Louis if Limbaugh buys the team, but the conditions of the sale are that Rush requires that the team is renamed to the St. Louis Oxycotins.

1. I heard about this
We watched the game today and I thought it was kind of sweet that SF 49ers kicked butt.

I can't imagine that being owned by Rush will do this team any good.

4. He would have the total hookup then.
Pro football players eat Vicodin and Oxy like candy during the season. No one would blink if Rush skimmed a few fistfuls off the top.

19. With all due respect, where do you have this information from?
>Pro football players eat Vicodin and Oxy like candy during the season.<

One of the few NFL player rules strictly enforced is the random drug testing. Anyone gobbling "Vicodin and Oxy like candy" would be quickly found out.

31. I'm guessing it's based on the fact that ALL football players live in near constant pain
they are constantly getting battered , bruised, and broken.
And that's just in practice! :)
I think it was Tim Greene? who wrote a book on his life in the NFL and his transition back into the journalism word (he actually had a degree in something useful)
he talked about how he was constantly in some kind of pain or medical condition.

They beat the living hell out of NFLers. They also don't have that good of medical coverage, From what I understand, after 'retirement'. They are pretty much screwed, since most don't make millions, and even that 100k per year gets eaten up pretty fast in medical bills.

So I would imagine Vicadine and Oxy are well used - but under medical supervision, as opposed to what the supposed pedophile, pill popping drug dealer Rush does.

Is that true BTW, that Rush is a pill-popping, drug addicted pedophile who goes to the Dominican republic to abuse small boys in the sex market there?

Just curious it was a rumor I heard somewhere online.

37. Too bad the NFL doesn't require random drug tests on the owners!
If that were the case, Rush Limbaugh wouldn't be allowed to own a team. BTW, how did Rush make all that money spreading lies and hatred?

38. I heard it from a first hand-account from an ex-coworker
I used to work with a guy who used to play for the Falcons and Panthers. He said that during the season, those guys take such a gigantic beating that they're on major painkillers from one end of the season to the other, and half the people he played with would quietly detox at the end of the season after the beatings stop. The 'eating Vicodin like candy' line was the exact phrase he used.

And no, they don't piss-test for oxy.

49. Considering the fact that the team doctor would be prescribing the drugs in question
There'd be a fairly close eye on what that player was ingesting, if the doctor would like to keep his or her license.

I might also mention that contract restrictions on pro athletes and hazardous activities are rife. Let's put it this way: When you've signed someone to upwards of thirty million in contract, some other people get involved, like insurance companies, for instance.

So, if he destroys the Rams and the NFL instead of our democracy, I can live with that. Besides, I think there are more NFL fans than democracy fans that will take him to task on it and shut him down. This could be a win/win for us all.

"My friends, thanks to the Keynesian Kenyan, the Halfrican-American Obama, I can no longer afford to buy the St. Louis Rams outright! I will, my friends, be forced to be only a PART owner of a major-league professional football franchise!

"My friends, these outrageous tax rates are KILLING the ability of average Americans to buy and sell major sports fanchises, luxury yachts, and Gulfstreams!"

20. The only thing that may save the Rams is Limbaugh's rep
I said earlier today that Goodell is a hypocrite, and Rush has lots of little buddies in owner suites around the country, but on the heels of the Vick issue, it's hard to believe the league would think this a great idea right now.

Then again, I've been wrong before.

It'll be interesting to see how many of the players demand a trade if Limbaugh becomes an owner. I can't imagine he'd be especially great to work for.

21. In order to own a team,
a prospective buyer must get a vote of 3/4 of the owners or 24 votes.

He apparently has some friends who are owners which is unfortunate:
Among his good friends, Limbaugh listed: Robert Kraft (New England Patriots and fellow Palm Beacher), Chris Mara (New York Giants), Wayne Huizenga (Miami Dolphins and Stuart resident), Alex Spanos (San Diego Chargers) and Bud Adams (Tennessee Titans).

However, he has made such flamingly racist statements, I'm not sure how much heat the NFL and Goodell would want to take. They are already on the hot seat about their poor minority hiring practices with coaches. 65% of the league's players are minorities.

I think some noise should be made. the owners now aren't angels and have political affiliations. However, they aren't on radio making statements like Rush has.

I think somebody ought to get a list of Limbaugh's "Greatest" hits concerning minorities and other pertinent issues. A youtube video and email would spread like wildfire.

....then have to deal with that sick SOB as an owner.

Then again, in South Florida the sports teams here were all cursed with Wayne Huzeniga (big Republican financer) as an owner for years. The damage that man did to the Marlins, Panthers, and even Dolphins is something not to be forgotten.
