Asbury Park, New Jersey-AP -- New Jersey's first same-sex marriage ceremony has been performed in Asbury Park.

In a written statement, City Clerk Dawn Tomek, calls it "a matter of fundamental civil and Constitutional rights."

...

Two men were married in City Hall after being issued a license by city officials. About ten people attended the ceremony.

Asbury Park officials say six other applications for same-sex weddings are pending.

8. ugh...
Just caught a snipped on ABC preview for the news saying "Why gay marriage celebration in New Jersey may be short-lived" and there was a clip of the licenses, I think. I just hope the mayors and city clerks across the country keep doing what's right and eventually the archaic, atavistic attitudes will be history...

3. Is this a first for the east coast?
Only place I know of where it's actually happening is Portland and San Fran. It would be great to see thousands of couples show up everytime some place performs the ceremony.
