2000 recount still on the minds of Kerry supporters
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/state/8135902.htm

<snip>So when the Coral Springs artist tossed presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry a question Monday about his plans to challenge President Bush, she summed it up this way, "What can we do to prevent him from stealing the election again?"

Kerry encountered Floridians still sore about the disputed election at a town hall meeting with about 500 supporters in Broward County, a Democratic bastion with serious voting irregularities in 2000. Bush defeated Democrat Al Gore by 537 votes in Florida after the U.S. Supreme Court stopped a state recount.

Kerry said he would assemble a legal team to guard against any irregularities in Florida this fall, focusing on problematic precincts and seeking injunctions where necessary to guarantee voting rights.

"I guarantee, not only do we want a record level of turnout to vote, we want to guarantee that every vote is counted," he said to cheers. "I don't think we ought to have any vote cast in America that cannot be traced and properly recounted."

1. Now This Is What I Want To Hear From Kerry
This is a far cry from crying in my teacup. I appreciate that perhaps Senator Kerry heard the murmerings of dissatisfaction, and has decided to show that he is listening.

That is a great part of what I afraid that would not happen with Kerry, that he would not connect with the voters. It's not asking much to ask that all of our voices be heard, listened to, and respected.

I'm encouraged to see signs that this is happening. Bravo.

11. Or perhaps he would rather have people being pissed off and...
...do something about it rather then crying in their teacups and feeling sorry for themselves which does not accomplish anything?

13. Get over it
Was the quote. "Quit crying in your teacups" and "Get over it."

That doesn't sound like "he would rather have people being pissed off and do something about it..." It sounded like he would rather have people forget about it and move on to other topics.

Here, I thought that Kerry had changed his POV for the better, clearly expressing his concern and desire to see every vote counted.

Still, that's not enough, is it? I can't be happy that, IMO, Kerry has made a positive change in his rhetoric? I have to change MY thinking to align Kerry's too very different statements.

You seem to want me to believe that all that "Get over it!" stuff that Kerry said was his way of saying "This is unacceptable! Let's correct this crime!" Is that it?

I get it! It was just me, all along!

"Get over it" in Kerry-speak means "Don't get over it!"

Thanks ever so much. I finally see the light!

2. I wish the outright theft was on Kerry's mind
It does not take a lot of looking into to find that what was done in Florida was a huge huge crime. None of the Dems really seem to want to address it though. Why is that?

14. Because nothing can be done about it
The best and fastest way to remove Bush from office is to defeat him decisively at the polls in November.

3. Did they really think we would just "forget about it" and "move on"?

6. Kerry has won many elections.
He didn't get where he is by neglecting the obvious.

It's a wise move not to talk about it a lot, though.

Walk softly and carry a big stick.

7. Better Look To Ohio
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 08:49 PM by mtnester
John Kerry better not,in his haste to oversee the Florida vote, overlook Ohio to "detour" the votes this time.

http://www.motherjones.com/commentary/columns/2004/03/03_200.html

Wally O'Dell Chairman and CEO of Dielbold last fall penned a letter pledging his commitment "to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the President."

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0828-08.htm

And I believe that literally.

I trust Ohio Governor Bob Taft about as far as I can throw him. He talks with a constant, unnatural smile :evilgrin:on his face (think Jim Carey in The Mask), which is body language to me that shrieks "I have a dirty secret to hide, plus I, like most boys/men, can't lie with a straight face."

I trust Secretary of State Ken Blackwell even less. He wants to be in the Governor's shoes, and I believe he would do most anything to get there.

Fair warning.:scared:

9. Proud of him
I'm so proud of Sen. Kerry. I'm really thinking about scraping together some of my money and donating to his campaign.

Go, Kerry!

10. I hope Kerry and his staff become educated on the issue, BUT...
I suspect that it's the grassroots that will force Kerry to actually do something about this.
