Ex-Congressman Linked To Corruption Scandal (Doolittle named as co-conspirator)
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 05:43 AM by maddezmom
Source: CBS

Concert tickets; baseball tickets; even lavish dinners; all of these freebies were allegedly given to former Representative John Doolittle who today was named a co-conspirator in a corruption case.

Dozens of alleged bribes and favors are now revealed in Federal Court documents obtained by CBS-13. The indictment, filed against a lobbyist working for the firm of Jack Abramoff, was once a staff member in Doolittle's office. It also links the former Congressman with Abramoff, now in prison for corruption.

"If he's innocent, he's innocent, but they need to find out," said one voter we spoke with about the indictment. Though another thought "we definitely need to investigate more."

According to the indictment, "Lawmaker #5", who CBS-13 confirmed through emails and evidence submitted in the court hearings is John Doolittle, was showered with gifts, including a job for his wife that paid more than $90,000 at a non-profit that would make sure she wasn't "overburdened with work."

1. Did not see mention of Doolittle's Party in the story. That must mean he is a Green.

2. Couldn't happen to a nicer jerk
Unfortunately I lived in Doolittle's district for a number of years. I lived down in a Sacramento suburb called Orangevale but his base of operations was up in the hills in Placerville. He continually got reelected because the people in Placerville overwhelmingly voted for him so there weren't enough people in the valley to override their vote. To me he always came off as a somewhat arrogant, self-serving jerk oh, wait... I guess that describes most Republicans/conservatives doesn't it.

3. Good to see progress being made, despite the firing of Carol Lam.
Though who knows how much further, and deeper, the investigation might have gone had she not been removed.

4. Another Republican in the Abramoff Circle of Corruption
Where are all the Democrats in this "bipartisan" scandal? I kept hearing that Abramoff was an equal opportunity corruptor, but it seems that all the elected officials getting indicted and going on trial are exclusively of one party.

Well, I'm sure Fox News will give this a full and complete treatment.

6. That's the BUSH circle of corruption. Abramoff was a messenger boy, in and out of the White House
regularly, with his own assistant in Karl Rove's office.

Come to think of it, it wasn't a circle, it was a top-down command structure: Bush, Rove, Abramoff, .....
