The identity of one of the most notorious murderers in the annals of British crime may become clearer when a retired detective presents fresh evidence.

Trevor Marriott, a former British murder squad detective, will attempt to unmask Jack the Ripper during a presentation at the University of Ulster.

6. Ok...then it had to be Alan Moore.
There's no way anyone could write that detailed of a comic book on the Ripper without inside knowledge.

Actually, I'm feeling worse. My face is beet red right now, and I'm sitting here without my shirt on because I'm so hot.

However, I am sitting here listening to my new Lewis Black CD.

22. I'm a history major and is doesn't mean anything to me because...
You can guess on whomever did it for all the time you want it doesn't do anything. Now studying these people will help us try and minimize the damage done by these killers.

10. UPDATE: 'More Than One Jack the Ripper' - Latest Claim - ENGLAND
'More Than One Jack the Ripper' - Latest Claim
By Gary Kelly, PA News

FROM: http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=2623937
More than one person probably carried out the series of gory murders attributed to the notorious Jack the Ripper, it was claimed today.

Former murder squad detective Trevor Marriott said it was highly unlikely the same killer had been responsible for the “double event murders” when the bodies two of the Ripper’s victims were discovered within 12 minutes of each other.

“My theory is that had the Ripper been responsible for the first murder and had been disturbed as has been suggested, he would have been in a great hurry to escape from the area.

“It is highly unlikely that the murderer would have stopped a second time to murder a second victim in such a short space of time,” he added.

Mr Marriott, a former detective constable in Bedfordshire Police was in Londonderry today to deliver a presentation entitled “Jack the Ripper: Man or Myth”.

11. That's not really anything new.
Consensus has been that the Double Event was the work of two different individuals for quite some time.

“As a result of that my findings suggest the five victims were possibly not all murdered by the same person as has been suggested.

“Also my findings suggest that there may well have been two other similar murders after the police closed their file.”

Mr Marriott, whose presentation at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus included more than 80 photographs and illustrations, said another theory was the Ripper murders may have been reprisal killings carried out by pimps.

“The Whitechapel area at that particular time was a haven for gangs. It was also a haven for prostitutes were were forced to go out and earn money which was taken off them by the gangs.

13. Yeah. Like I said, as no-one can even agree on which murders are canonical
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 04:36 PM by Screaming Lord Byron
I don't see what this brings to the arena.

On edit - There are about twelve murders that could be considered Ripper Murders.

14. If you ever go to London, be sure to see Donald Rumpalo
He does walking tours of London, his most popular being the Jack the Ripper tour. Rumpalo was one of the advisors for the film, "From Hell" with Johnnie Depp.

He's an ex-Scotland Yard guy and has written a book about Jack. He's a fascinating guy and also does a tour of White Chapel, which I found to be even more exciting as he delves into the past history of the gangs of the East End, as well as the Elephant Man.

20. I've been on a Ripper tour back in 86, I think.
It was fascinating, as I'd read about these murders for years. We were shown the fountain where police found blood going down the drain just after the Ripper had washed his hands. Now the area is filled with immigrants, mostly Indians and Pakistanis.
