Canada to Boycott Ahmadinejad at U.N., Unclear if U.S. Will Join
Source: Fox News

Canada will reportedly boycott Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the United Nations Wednesday in protest of his anti-Israel comments and repeated Holocaust denials.

Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon and other Canadian delegates will vacate their seats at the U.N. General Assembly's annual debate in New York when the Iranian president approaches the podium, the National Post said, citing an unidentified Canadian official.

"President Ahmadinejad's repeated denial of the Holocaust and his anti-Israel comments run counter to the values of the U.N. General Assembly, and they're shameful," the official told the newspaper. "He uses his public appearances to provoke the international community, and that is why Canada's seats will be empty."

U.S. State Department Noel Clay told FOXNews.com he knew of no plans to boycott Ahmadinejad's speech before the 192-member chamber.

"I can't predict what is going to say," said Clay, adding that the State Department had no additional information on the matter....

3. Oh we own everyone. I mean EVERYONE. Sadly that includes
sports teams like the NY Giants. It was an all or nothing deal, so our people went with all.

11. They own the Harper government
and that suck-up Ignatieff will go for the votes. The NDP think Israel's behaviour is criminal.

5. A cheap shot on Canada's part.
The Germans were going to lead a walk-out if Ahmadinejad did any holocaust denying. THAT would have been a devastating and effective slap to him. But now Canada has stolen Germany's thunder, without specific cause.

He's more pro-Israel than most of Israel.

Canadians themselves are far less extreme in their views.

As for this walkout not being about Israel, of course it's about Israel. Ahmadinejad's holocaust denial is just the hook.

14. he may well be. that doesn't make Ahmadinejad any better than he is
and he sucks. And no, it's not about Israel. It really is about holocaust denial. All fuckwad has to do is keep his anti-semitic mouth shut on certain topics. Not that he's capable of that much self-restraint.

the Israel/Palestine mess.

17. What has that to do with the price of eggs?
One can oppose right-wing holocaust-deniers without supporting the Likud or even Israel itself, or Bush.

Bush and Ahmadinejad have a certain amount in common in fact: both are loony election-stealing sabre-rattling xenophobic right-wing twits.

18. You ask:
You write: One can oppose right-wing holocaust-deniers without supporting the Likud or even Israel itself, or Bush.

I agree.

You write: Bush and Ahmadinejad have a certain amount in common in fact: both are loony election-stealing sabre-rattling xenophobic right-wing twits.

Can't disagree.

You ask:What has that to do with the price of eggs?

The relevance to Israel that I saw is this: I think I read a news report somewhere that asserted (not in any detail, I concede) that the anti-Iran speech boycott initiative at the UN was being organized by Israel and/or its lobbyists.

If I'm mistaken on this, and if they weren't the moving force behind this boycott, then I welcome correction.

20. Addendum
Just saw this article (below) on the subject that makes it clear that Harper see a link between the boycott and Israel.

“President Ahmadinejad has said things particularly about the state of Israel, the Jewish people and the Holocaust that are absolutely repugnant. It is unfitting that somebody like that would be giving those kinds of remarks before the United Nations General Assembly,” the Prime Minister said.

23. You can find his comments on Israel and the Jewish people absolutely repugnant...
without supporting everything that Israel does.

Just as one can e.g. find McCain singing 'Bomb Iran' repugnant without supporting everything that Ahmadinejad does.
