Venezuela Leader Vows War if U.S. Invades ((100 year war))
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 03:20 AM by Tinoire
CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez on Sunday vowed to freeze oil exports to the United States and wage a "100-year war" if Washington ever tried to invade Venezuela.

The United States has repeatedly denied ever trying to overthrow Chavez, but the leftist leader accuses Washington of being behind a failed 2002 coup and of funding opposition groups seeking a recall referendum on his presidency.

Chavez accused the United States of ousting former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and warned Washington not to "even think about trying something similar in Venezuela."

Venezuela "has enough allies on this continent to start a 100-year war," Chavez said during his weekly television show.

He added that "U.S. citizens could forget about ever getting Venezuelan oil" if the United States ever tried to invade.

<snip>

"Violence only takes place when a group of the opposition leaders decide there will be violence."

1. With What?
At this point it is almost laughable to think the US could send anymore troops anywhere. With the US military stretched to the breaking point, Chavez probably has little to fear from Bush. But then, Bush is not that bright and may think (difficult for Bush) that Venezuela would topple as easily as say, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I don't know....um....Iraq. May God help us all.

2. In February, someone tried to ship arms to Venezuela
The arms were from Miami.

Caracas, Venezuela. Feb. 13, 2004 (Venezuelanalysis.com).- An illegal shipment of about 50,000 7.62-caliber cartridges for AK-47 rifles was detected inside a container this Thursday by customs authorities at the Port of Maracaibo, on the western coast of Venezuela.

Authorities are inspecting the container were the ammo was camouflaged inside 18 kgs “Wind Fresh” laundry detergent containers.

Sources, including local newspaper Panorama, quoted General Castor Lopez Leal, chief of the 3rd National Guard Regional Command, saying that the illegal cargo had been shipped from Miami. en. Perez added that only rifle cartridges had been found as of 7 p.m., Thursday, although he did not discard the possibility that weapons of war could be found in the container.

“There is plenty of merchandise that has yet to be revised,” said Perez. “All I can assure you is that the seized cartridges were for AK-47 rifles. We will provide more details of the inspections at tomorrow’s press conference.”

5. Thanks for posting that article!
I read about this discovery when it came out. Don't you think the timing is interesting?

Venezuelan authorities are on high alert after rumors of an opposition-sponsored rebellion of destabilizing activities, after electoral authorities decided to postpone the announcement of whether or not opposition forces collected enough valid signatures to call for a recall referendum on President Hugo Chavez and several lawmakers.

Pamphlets calling for a military uprising were scattered trough the wealthy eastern section of Caracas, early today.

Pro-government political analysts argued that the ammunition seized in Maracaibo was to be used by the opposition in a possible coup d’etat against Chavez.

I really hope they find the guys in Miami who shipped it.

6. 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne)
Find out where these guys are (Ecuador, Peru, Columbia?)

And you'll know how serious the US is.

If we invade Venezuela, gas gets cut off to US.
Regardless, Summer demand will outstrip supply.
Will BushCo attack Venezuela and then claim
that as the reason for lack of US gas?
