Group: NYC initiative for new 9/11 investigation gets legal opening

Group says petition for ballot initiative carries signatures from over 80,000 New York City residents

New York City Coalition for Accountability Now, a group comprising 9/11 family members, first responders and survivors, said on Thursday that New York City attorneys have conceded that enough valid signatures have been collected for a 9/11 investigation ballot initiative to move forward.

However, while the group hailed the concession as “a big victory,” activists still have a steep hill to climb before New Yorkers will get to vote on probing the infamous attacks anew.

“In an earlier letter from the City Clerk dated July 24, 2009, the City had claimed only 26,003 signatures were valid, 3,997 short of the requisite 30,000,” the group noted in a media advisory. “The City’s concession that over 30,000 of the 52,000 signatures submitted were in fact valid paves the way for lawyers from both sides to argue the legality of petition.”

The group added on its Web site: “The City’s concession comes as a result of the immense effort put forth by 50+ volunteers who gave more than 1,000 hours over a two week period from August 10 to August 25 to identify a total of 7,166 signatures that were wrongly invalidated by the NYC City Clerk and Board of Elections. On August 27, NYC CAN filed the 631-page Bill of Particulars cataloguing each of the 7,166 signatures it contended were in fact valid. NYC CAN submitted another 28,000 signatures on September 4 to guarantee the referendum will go on the ballot if they win the court case, bringing the total signatures submitted to 80,000.”

2. We need a REAL investigation.

The attempts to silence those that dare to ask the obvious questions regarding that terrible event have not worked. More and more people are looking into te lies we have been told about 9-11. One of the biggest problems IMO is that the "Truth Movement" is very fragmented and does indeed include people that put forth irrational theories. Unfortunately that allows the MSM and even people on places like DU to dismiss the more relevant questions. Since that terrible day I have met many people within the "movement" as well as people in power who have told me things that frankly blow my mind about things they know about that event and their experiences that day. What I have learned has been extremely disturbing and has left me convinced there is much more to the 9-11 story than we are being told.

I don't subscribe to many of the theory's out there but the holes in the official story are glaring and need to be addressed.

5. "One of the biggest problems" is the "irrational theories."

It's a classic psyops technique to seed movements that challenge the corpo/fascist powers-that-be with "irrational" or violent elements. And it is the job of the corpo/fascist press to pick up on these oddities or scary elements to discredit good ideas and challenging movements--anti-war movement, anti-WTO ("free trade for the rich") movement, election reform movement, environmental movement, labor movement, JFK-RFK assassination investigators, etc., you name it. Also, the ferment of ideas that arises naturally in a democracy, and is especially intense around great injustice and great official crime, creates a range of ideas, some good, some bad, some false trails, some fruitful trails. It is supposed to be the function of "freedom of speech" in a democracy for the less good ideas to fall by the wayside, and the best ideas to rise to the top. But when you have speech controlled by the corpo/fascist press, this sorting out cannot occur. So I wouldn't blame the nutballs. They are an essential part of a democratic society's exchange of ideas. And sometimes the 'nutballs' turn out to be right! This should be the attitude of anyone devoted to democracy, good ideas and truth--not to suppress the nutballs, but to welcome all ideas, and see which ones survive in a true "marketplace of ideas." But, of course, that isn't what happens with our corpo/fascist press controlling speech. They promote the most preposterous rightwing nutball notions (and politicians), and black-hole, or demean and marginalize, good ideas (and good politicians) in every sphere, totally screwing up the function of ideas in a democracy. It's no surprise they do this on 9/11. But don't condemn the "nutballs" unless you know for sure that they are operatives of the bad guys. They may just be creative, far-out thinkers, and it is not their fault that their ideas are used to discredit more rational views.

Bush and Clinton's 1998 stop intended to protect the secrecy and privilege of the powerful elite let off the hook when the BCCI report and all its outstanding matters were deepsixed shortly after the report's release in Dec 1992.

11. Between the "official story" and various "debunkings" of "conspiracy theories"

(some more fringe than others) and Alex Jones style NWO "truther" movements its hard to know what to believe any more, or who is an accurate source.

All I know is that I find it VERY hard to believe that Dick Cheney was running a anti-terrorism exercise on the same day that we were struck by terrorists. Additionally I can't understand why so much evidence was withheld and/or destroyed and why Cheney and Bush never testified under oath.

3. 9/11- The truth must be told. We need a new comprehensive investigation free of stonewalling.

Bushco stonewalled the last investigation and hid behind "executive priviledge".

Time to expose the traitorous Bushco and for the truth to be told.

10. I was waiting for the train when a young lady came up with this petition

asking me to sign.

I'm wary of petitions so I asked what it was about, she started into what was obviously a practiced monologue, but as soon as she said that they were petitioning for a reopening of the 9/11 investigation I said "that's all I need to hear!" and signed it.
