5. The fact they would even waste time for a 3rd vote
says loads about the GOP's ability (or lack thereof) to work with the Dems and build some consensus.

6. Yeah, but...
Owens and Pryor are just the tip of the iceberg.

They've managed to put, what, 140 of THEIR judges in district and appeals courts so far. The effects of that will be devastating.

I don't mind a few rightwing judges, as long as there is a balance with some leftwingers. That balance is being destroyed, and we're getting rightwing and moderate, with no balance of opposing views on the bench. It truly frightens me that the Federal judiciary is slowly becoming more a branch of the Federalist Society than a branch of government..

8. I thought this was a vote on cloture?
End of debate only...did I miss a second vote?

I hope you're right.

15. Correct
"On this vote, the yeas are 53, the nays are 43. 3/5ths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn having failed to vote in the affirmative, the motion is rejected."

9. IMO this is an election move to attract the female vote.
The average voter is just going to hear the Dems disallowed a woman. Unfortunately, it works. This issue needs to come up in national debates closer to the election.

12. No. not at all.
Clinton's 8 years (and 6 with a GOP congress) showed we can work with the Repubs and get judges nominated and onto the bench. Orrin Hatch needs a little reminder of that fact. Fortunately Hillary is there to remind him.

What would you perfer, these right wing nuts on the bench now or take your chances later? Anyone can see the logic of the republician party.

17. Very afraid of this
This process keeps getting more and more politicized, and I know the GOP started it, but everytime power changes the party out of power takes it even further, and if we take back the White House in 2004 any president will have major problems getting judges through. I know they obstructed Clinton's judges and a lot of the spots Bush is trying to fill are vacancies that Clinton did not get to fill because of Republican obstruction, but the bottom line is, when and where is this going to end?

19. I disagee, it's not as bad as the repugs make it seem.
only 4 judges have been blocked by the dems (and 3 of these were blocked in committee when the dems controlled the senate, so the repugs knew they wouldn't go through) . Over 140 have been confirmed. It's all repug propaganda.

16. They are all about covering all bases...
Executive, Legislative, Judicial at all levels. Even when they are not in power in the WH or Senate, they strive to cover all the judgeships and civic offices. They groom lawyers through their foundations. They are about hitting and winning on all levels. Theirs is not just the next election, their plan is penetration at all levels for all years. If they lose out on the WH for 4 or more years, they can do damage every day of the year and decade by getting there people into every small to medium decision and use precedence. They gain experience and learn the breadth of tolerance on each and every strategy.
