Jones Resigns as Obama Aide, Citing ‘Vicious Smear Campaign’
Source: Bloomberg

Sept. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Van Jones, an environmental adviser to President Barack Obama, resigned, citing a “vicious smear campaign” by opponents of health care and energy plans focused on comments he made before joining the administration.

“They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide,” Jones said in a resignation letter to Nancy Sutley, chairwoman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, released yesterday. “I came here to fight for others, not for myself,” he wrote. “I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past.”

Jones, appointed by Obama to advise on the creation of “green jobs” in March, was an environmental activist in California before joining the administration. In 2004, he signed a petition asking for investigations into whether high-level officials allowed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to happen.

Republican lawmakers and conservative commentators seized upon that petition to argue that Jones should resign. They also focused on his affiliation with ColorofChange.org, a group he co-founded in 2005 that is leading an advertising boycott against Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck.

He's an idiot.
He's been going on and on about Rockefeller. Rockefeller! A communist? Geez... the guy had more money than God. Talk about your Capitalist saints.

And now this nonsense. Going after a decent human being and smearing him.
The lessons of McCarthy were meant to be learned FOREVER.

It is NOT a crime to be a member of the communist party.
Not. A. Crime.

Let he who has not flirted with all sorts of ideas as a youth cast the first stone.

As I said in another thread, THIS resignation and acceptance of it by Obama has made me more sad and disappointed than other stupid move by this admin so far. So far.
They must be aware that they are losing their progressive supports in leagues.
Sad sad sad.

302. there's probably a pattern to be observed here
IMHO most of the people who are outraged at the thought that the official story of 9-11 was a whitewash or an outright deception, these same people will religiously believe in the government as long as it reeks of rightwing propaganda, i.e., Warren Commission, Oswald as the lone nut, ect.

Independent, critical thinking is a hallmark of intelligence, and Van Jones deserves all the praise in the world for his courageous stance wrt the 9-11 attacks. Republicans and their minions do not have sufficient brain processing neurons to engage in any sort of critical thinking, what passes for critical thinking for them, it is to echo the Republican own party line.

Rush Limbaugh makes millions of dollars a year for doing this sort of thing. He is a true corporate shill, the best that money can buy!

I'm pretty sure I would have already signed the same document questioning the veracity of the official story of 9-11 (911truth.org), and if I didn't, I will sign onto it anytime.

288. It wasn't as simple as Jones's letter makes it sound
It wasn't just lies and distortions, it was also audio and video recordings of his own sayings.

His only other recourse would have been to embrace what he said--either say he changed his mind or say that's what he believes, and move on. But the administration didn't seem ready to take that step.

12. I'm not a big fan of Van Jones's attempt to link green jobs
to fighting poverty. "Gee, what if we could fight poverty and help the environment at the same time? What a concept. Let's promote that." I prefer evidence-based approaches to fighting poverty. But I don't see why people like Beck should be appeased by being given Van Jones's head on a platter. Van Jones says that he never agreed with the statement on the petition. End the story there. Move on.

13. Breaking News: Van Jones resigns as Obama environmental adviser over controversial statements
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 11:58 PM by cal04
Source: Associated Press

The White House says President Barack Obama's adviser Van Jones is resigning amid controversy over past inflammatory statements.

Van Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs," is linked to efforts suggesting a governmental role in the 2001 terror attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans.

Jones issued an apology on Thursday. When asked the next day whether Obama still had confidence in him, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said only that Jones "continues to work in the administration."

The White House issued a statement early Sunday saying Jones had quit the administration.

"I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality, effective today," Jones said in a resignation letter released by the CEQ late Saturday.

(snip)
"I have been inundated with calls -- from across the political spectrum -- urging me to 'stay and fight,'" he continued. "But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future.

186. Surely you should know by now....
...that this is not the place for a different point of view than the orthodox one... Some thinking people might conclude after reading Jones' past statements that it was idiotic to put him forth for anything at the Federal level... too much documented baggage... it was a big misstep for the administration to do so to begin with... However, try telling the faithful here that some of his words could be construed as racist, etc, and might come back to haunt him, and you will soon learn that it's the Republicans, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, et al, and of course, the lapdog media that derailed him. Get ready to be flamed on, or get in line with the herd.

47. You can't be serious
Former Vice Pres. Cheney and the Republicans, at least under Pres. Bush, made little or no pretense of "bipartisanship." So when Cheney f-bombed Sen. Leahy, it was no big deal, at least to Republicans. But as long as the Democrats talk about "bipartisanship," instead of saying, "We won, you lost, deal with it!" they'll have to muzzle anyone who makes strong partisan comments. Mr. Jones did just that, so he had to go.

Politics is a dirty business. It always has been, and it probably always will be.

119. IMO, the difference is that cheney used an expletive to one person, while
this guy smeared a large group of people. Temper versus stereotyping. Really not similar at all, though they may, on the surface, seem similar because both incidents involve vulgar language.

Substitute a racial or ethnic minority in this guy's statment and you'll see the issue more clearly. (BTW, you cannot do that substitution with "Go fuck yourself" said to a single individual.)

Now, it is not exactly like calling a racial or ethnic minority assholes because you cannot change what you are born and you can change your political views. But, the statement was still closer to that than to telling one person to f--K himself.

BTW, your memory seems short. Before Obama ran, in part, on bipartisanship, Dummya ran, in part, on being "a uniter, not a divider." And Cheney was Dummya's V.P., not just someone in his administration. So, using your logic, Cheney's statement was much more of a sore thumb than this guy's.

221. Cheney v. Jones
Before Obama ran, in part, on bipartisanship, Dummya ran, in part, on being "a uniter, not a divider." And Cheney was Dummya's V.P., not just someone in his administration. So, using your logic, Cheney's statement was much more of a sore thumb than this guy's.

The retort by Vice Pres. Cheney also occurred at the end of an argument on the Senate floor, not in a speech or a Q&A with a sympathetic audience. More importantly, it came in 2004, near the end of Pres. Bush's first term, long after the "uniter-divider" contrast had either been formally or informally discarded. This mess has come up during the first few months of Pres. Obama's administration, presumably before cynicism (or is it political reality?) should have set in.

In any event, it's too bad Jones wasn't given an opportunity to apologize and/or explain his comment. He might have been able to wriggle off the hook. I was surprised that he resigned so quickly. Not only does it show the Obama administration is willing to cave in to criticism from those who would never vote for him anyway (does anyone believe that any of Glenn Beck's loyal listeners actually voted for this administration?), but it also shows that the President may have quite a bit of opposition within the ranks of his own party, perhaps even in his own administration.

If the media were neutral, it would have forced Cheney into resignation for his comment.

And how would we show that? By showing up at funerals and not

177. General strikes are called by Labor Leaders, and this is NOT a labor issue.
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 08:20 AM by happyslug
Remember this is an environmental issue, labor may be supportive of the environment but it is NOT an issue a labor leader gets elected on (Unless it affects a lot of workers such as the eight hour day, minimum wage etc.).

When the French went out it was over pensions and labor regulations in general NOT anything else.

For example see the following:

260. But you need labor to make it work.
And to get Labor, you have to get the Labor Leadership. Now at time Labor can force their leadership to lead, but even in those situation you need the support of labor. Someone has to lead, and that is labor and their show their leadership through their labor leaders.

56. And whose fault is that?
If they're able to do things like this while they're not in power, how? Are they given power by the majority Democrats? Are there large number of "majority" Democrats ("Blue Dogs," but maybe others, even some most of us here think of as staunch liberals) who are willing to let controversial outspoken Democrats and other supporters of Pres. Obama to be thrown under the bus?

I'm not asking these questions rhetorically. I'd really like to know the answer. Because it is clear that the Republicans, from ex-Gov. Sarah "Death Panels" Palin to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, despite being minorities (even minorities of minorities), are able to shape the debate in such a way that Pres. Obama and other prominent Democrats are frequently left floundering--or so it seems.

Republican broadcasters, who are even a much smaller minority than Republicans in general, should not be controlling our government.

Even if calling Republican assholes was termperate, it was one sentence. (And that was the reason because his truther statements were made long ago) An apology was given promptly and should have sufficed.

I can't believe that they actually won this. Obama should have rejected his resignation. What really disgusts me, apart from losing a great advocate for REAL change, is that now this has happened Faux must feel like they're calling the shots.

This has actually pushed me over the tipping point and I've lost all faith in this administration being strong enough to fight for anything we were looking forward to and excited about after the election.

It's time to start winning this BS media war against the nutjobs at Faux. 111. OMG - There is nothing wrong with questioning the facts of something under the Bush Admin
like 9/11. We KNOW they lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. We KNOW they lied about the evidence to even go to war. We KNOW they lied about so many things, and yet you willingly just accept their explanation of 9/11? I'm not saying I know what happened for sure, but there ARE legitimate questions about 9/11. It's not like our government hasn't planned to do a false flag OP like this to us before. We all know PNAC NEEDED into Iraq but didn't have a reason. With all the lies and coverups and secrecy out of the Bush Admin - how can you refuse to even consider the possibility?

Operation Northwoods, or Northwoods, was a false-flag plan, proposed within the United States government in 1962. The plan called for CIA or other operatives to commit apparent acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Castro-led Cuba. One plan was to "develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington".

This operation is especially notable in that it included plans for hijackings and bombings followed by the use of phony evidence that would blame the terrorist acts on a foreign government, namely Cuba.

303. get real
an administration that could have orchestrated the 911 conspiracy couldn't plant some WMD's in IRAQ?

the former is orders of magnitude harder to do than the latter w./o getting caught. WTC is a center of commerce in a busy city. HUNDREDS, if not thousands would have had to be in on the CONSPIRACY, not to mention the physical data does not support it.

so, the bush admin could pull this off, but then after lying about WMD's (vs being mistaken), they wouldn't go far enough to plant a few WMD's??

really?

that doesn't come close to passing the smell test.

308. Anyone who believes the official story of 9/11 needs to "get real"
A bigger bundle of contradictions, tall tales, and bizarre coincidences has never been funded by the American taxpayer.

The Bush administration had ties to Bin Laden and friends going back to their days with the Mujahadeen in the Afghan-Soviet conflict. The CIA funded and trained them. That's not a CONSPIRACY. That's just the fucking truth.

And as far as an elaborate plot, all the Bushies really needed to do, aside from greasing the palms of a few bad apples, is have specific information about a plot and do absolutely nothing about it. And I think it's been quite well established that's exactly what they did.

Funny that you should mention that they never planted WMDs somewhere. What makes you think they didn't try? What do you think all that stuff with Valerie Plame was all about?

309. do you have any idea
how easy it would have been for just a FEW operatives (FAR FAR fewer than would be needed with the WTC) it would have taken to plant at least a small cache of WMD's in some remote iraq location?

so, they would use WMD's as the (primary) causus belli, be evil enough to allow the WTC to be blown up, but NOT simply plant a few WMD's in iraq to justify the war in the public's eyes, help the repubs get reelected, etc?

it simply does not pass the smell test.

But I think they were called out by the international intelligence community. Anyway, it's a completely moot point, because following 9/11, they got their war anyway (and a Homeland Security Department, Patriot Act, "free speech zones", etc.) without having to do much of anything.

315. oh please
it would be SO simple to plant some frigging WMD's, they took MASSIVE HEAT for not finding them.

there is no way an organization that would be evil and coordinated enough to either plan or standby while knowing about the imminent death of 3k citizens, would not also be able to plant a few WMD's.

ONE simple small copter load with a crew of a few people could easily plant WMD's.

that is a MUCH smaller op to carry out and succeed in than the WTC caper.

again, it simply fails the smell test.

considering the perceived GROSS implications that would happen if they DIDN'T find WMD's, it is not believable that they would do the first thing and not the second.

117. And you think that he will be the last to be targeted?
Now that they've been handed a victory, they'll move on to the next victim. And the Dems will once again, bend over backwards to appease them. And again, and again and again.

Obama should have refused his resignation and called the whole thing a partisan attack by some fringe groups to distract from the important issues facing the country. And he then should have taken a lesson from the Bushes, and refused to talk about it anymore.

You DO NOT cave into bullies. Bush refused to fire Rumsfeld even when the military was demanding it. He gave medals of freedom to people like Sanchez after he was implicated in the torture scandal the Taguba report. They didn't care what Mike Malloy, or Randi Rhodes or anyone else had to say about it, did they?

Obama is FEEDING the frenzy by giving it legitmacy and accepting this resignation. Now he looks weak, now they will not stop and in 2010, they will be back in power.

65. Van Jones Resigns
Source: ThinkProgress

The AP reports that after weeks of constant attacks by the right wing, Van Jones has resigned as Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality. Below is the letter he sent to chair Nancy Sutley:

I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality, effective today.

On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.

I have been inundated with calls - from across the political spectrum - urging me to “stay and fight.”

But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future.

It has been a great honor to serve my country and my President in this capacity. I thank everyone who has offered support and encouragement. I am proud to have been able to make a contribution to the clean energy future. I will continue to do so, in the months and years ahead.

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/news_corp_profit_falls_30_gains_at_fox_news_help_99799.asp

News Corp. is reporting a 29.6% decline in first quarter net profit, saying all media companies are being tested and the year ahead will be difficult.

One highlight: cable network programming operating income is up 31%. According to the report, that growth is "led by affiliate and advertising revenue gains at the Fox News Channel, FX and the Big Ten Network, as well as continued expansion of the Fox International Channels."

Faux "News" is getting a lot of publicity off of the mess that is Glenn BecKKK and the boycotting of his show. For a while they were operating in the red and still continued to air lies disguised as news, making a profit would just be a nice bonus. Faux is there for pure propaganda purposes and BecKKK is one of their biggest propagandists, with a bit of crazy and hate thrown in. I would be really surprised if they let him go.

165. And they will win the debate about healthcare reform..
The health care reform issue is all but dead...Why..because we have a President, elected by Democrats, acting like a Republican and insisting on "bipartisan" involvement on this health care issue and is losing the battle..
We need a leader for the Democratic Party and all we have is an outstanding politician who gives a great speech.
Would there be anything else we think we can get through this Democratic controlled Congress? How about the union card check issue? Dead in the water..How about the issue about saving homeowners from foreclosure? dead in the water..
Now how about the issue about bank CEO's and execs receiving multimillion dollar bonuses while the banks were busy counting their handouts from uncle Sam? Well they got their bonuses..How about those that lost their 401Ks because the banks decided to invest them in high risk securities..dead in the water..
Is there any thing on the Democratic agenda we hope to pass through Congress that we really feel confident of it ever becoming law??
Oh yes we did get some sort of bill protecting consumer's from high credit card rates..Written by Republicans....and not really protection at all...but it was bipartisan...

Barack could have just kept pressing on and eventually this smear campaign would have gone away.

Instead, he caved, just like he'll probably cave on us - the people who supported him - with health care reform. More compromise, when we have control of both houses. Barack is now acting just like any other Washington politician I've ever seen. Un-fucking believable.

Now every fucking adviser is going to come under unwarranted scrutiny and could be flushed by Barack, just like Van did. HUGE tactical error!

121. Something wrong with that? Especially since that puts him
in the majority of people around the globe. He wanted a real investigation. So do I and do every single person I know both Dems and Repubs.

No one in their right mind believes the 'official' version of 9/11. Dems caved on that also, and forbade any discussion of it, handing yet another victory to the rightwingnuts.

Only in America are there any significant numbers of people who believe that the truth was told, or that the 9/11 commission was anything but a sham, and that includes families of the victims.

We need MORE not less people like him who refuse to be lied to running this country. You realize that our government can do what they want, torture, go to war based on lies, let a whole US city drown, and refuse to investigate a major terror attack, and there will be people who will say 'well, we can't really talk about that, you know, it doesn't look good'. And so they will do more, and it will get worse, because the country is populated by wimps, cowards and weaklings who are afraid of their own shadows. I am so disgusted. When a clown like Glenn Beck has more power than the president, it's time to quit.

but to believe that this administration is owned by corporate
interests and has very little say about anything. Please go to
"bradblog.com" and watch the Sibel Edmonds
testimony. If the Turkish embassy can own and blackmail key
members of Congress, then surely some (richer)country (or
corporation) can own and blackmail our President. It is
terrifying, when you realize that there has been ZERO media
coverage about the treasonous activities that Sibel has
testified to (under oath) concerning the bribing and blackmail
of Congressmen/women. Sibel has the proof, it is (was?)
contained in classified FBI documents. Not a word, almost 1
month later, about these revelations that prove treason,
selling nuclear secrets, vote buying, etc.. by members of
Congress. What does that say about our Nation and
"media?"

The president, for reasons unknown, is still licking the Republicans' ass. Why? Every day they go out and damn him to hell, calling him a socialist, a terrorist, questioning his birthright, patriotism, calling him Hitler. And never is there an apology demanded.

This guy goes out and makes comments BEFORE joining the administration, the Republicans demand a resignation, and he resigns?!?!?!?!? :puke::puke:

The real tragedy here is that we have lost another soldier in the public policy arena. My boss was a member of the Council of Environmental Quality and was working with members of other federal agencies and Van Jones on creating green jobs and other energy issues. :nono:

123. Why does he suck up to Republicans?
I don't know but it's been a real problem with him from way back in the primaries. His catering to fundies, his remarks about Reagan as if he couldn't think of a good Democratic President to admire. And worst of all, his cabinet choices. Rahm Emmanuel was a direct insult to the base of this party.

I don't know why the right doesn't love him as he and his close advisers seem to feel the same way about the 'left', his base, as they do. He wants desperately not to be seen with them. Rahm and his crew have basically told us to STFU.

I'm beginning to wonder why he didn't BECOME a Republican. Maybe because it doesn' matter and they have to pretend there are two parties.

I don't know, but he sure doesn't act like someone who is working for the people who worked for him. It is sad to have to say it, and I'm trying to hold on to some hope, but it's hard to do.

129. I JUST LEFT "NEWSVINE" ON MSNBC
I had to shower afterward, to get all of the rabid spittle
off. How can these people exist in the same universe that we
do. They definitely are the "Bizzaro World." They
were dancing on Van Jones grave, way early I hope. He was one
of the few "appointments" that stayed true to
pre-election Obama's values. Look at the very high positions
that Bush appointed people like Wolfowitz and Pearle to. They
were whacked out neo-cons who spoke out and wrote papers on
the necessity of a "New Pearl Harbor" (thousands of
Americans killed just like 9-11) so they could herd the
sheeple where they wanted them to go (it worked). Bush said
"fuck you" to Americans and packed all of his
positions with "political hacks" even when it was
detrimental to America (FEMA, ATTORNEY GENERALS,etc...).
President Obama should have said "fuck you" to the
insane rethugs. Van Jones told the truth. He was passionate
about getting rid of petroleum (his downfall) and implementing
"green power." This would have been great for
America but terrible for the wealthiest corporations in the
world. President Obama, please quit trying to appease these
"money-changers", please do not become "one of
them", if it is not too late, already. Stand up for the
principles that got you elected. Van Jones was a perfect
example of those principles.

Now that he's gone, there is no reason at all for me to mitigate my criticisms of this administration as being religionist bigots who oppose equal rights for minorities they do not like because they think God told them they are better than others. These weak, disloyal bigots do not deserve even a slight benefit of the doubt anymore. They oppose equal rights for all people. They are against equality and in favor of discrimination. The rope-a-dope concept might have worked for him, but I'm starting to think that we're going to get knocked out before we start to fight back and throw punches of our own. Come on Dem. leaders, if the Reptiles want to make this a street fight, forget about being polite and go for the knock-out.

210. Real rope a dope
would have been letting the fascists focus their energy on Jones while passing meaningful health care reform.
This victory allows the fascists to concentrate on defeating real health care reform. Every move the Administration makes to capitulate suggests weakness and continued minority rule. And they rule because they never show weakness. Democrats are far too concerned with the wrath of the Republican fringe than losing their base.
I got some news for the Democrats. The base is slipping away and just might send money to whoever runs against Baucus, Conrad, Landrieu, Liebermann and any other Senate turn coat. These Quislings must be purged from the party, even if it means supporting Republicans to get it done.
My message to the DSCC fund raising call yesterday was "Not one more dime until health care reform with a strong public option is passed."
Republicans are classic abusers. The more you give in the more they demand. The fact that Democrats can't enact their agenda with large majorities tells me elections don't matter.

Van is far too good a man to be involved in White House crap, for the WH is corrupt to the core, and Mr Jones is an honest man. Rahm will be dancing now that they got rid of that freaky liberal, whose ethics are not a thing to be 'waived'.
I was thrilled to see Van get the gig, but frankly he is wasted there, co-opted by this right wing administration to serve as window dressing to make them seem 'moderate' or 'centrist' or anything but Conservative, which is what they are.

The powerful Democratic 'mafia' in Calif will make her the 'Senator Byrd' of Calif. into her 100s. If that were to be the case, then Van Jones would be a shoo-in and the only one who could get send DiFi out of office. Maybe it will turn out to be a good thing after all. 146. Bush called NYT reporter Adam Clymer a "major league asshole"
and Dick Cheney told someone to go f**ck themselves on the floor of the Senate.

Sounds like a case of IOKIYAR syndrome...its ok if you're a republican.

So he said republicans were assholes and suggested a governmental role in the 9/11 attacks. I'd like to see excatly what he said about 9/11 before getting too riled up about it - lots of people talked about how we trained and supplied OBL years ago when he was waging jihad against Soviet troops in Afghanistan. Many on the right didn't like that; O'Reilly went ballistic when a guest who lost his father in the WTC mentioned that on his show. Similar reaction to Reverend Wright when he said the chickens had come home to roost regarding US mid-east policy.

Anyway, many of us have probably said things in the heat of the moment that could come back haunt us at some point if we pursued a public position. Its a shame he had to resign.

being "professional and gentlemanly" I just posted on another thread that I am sick of Democrats trying to stay above the fray. I've been a Democrat all my 66 years. We need street fighters. All those Democratic talking heads need to start fighting fire with fire. Stop being so "nice". The republican party has found that you can throw around lies and get away with it. Look what they did to John Kerry. Did any of those swift boaters pay a price in public for their lies, no, they won. And they continue to spread lies about Obama, and all democrats, and what do we do. Talk to each other about what idiots they are. Where are our street fighters?

and get to know one another well but even then there is reluctance to speak how one really feels. Are you suggesting that we use rhetoric to scare them straight? Stupid would just consider that fueling the fire. If any of us are willing to get arrested we should shut down the offices of representatives who no longer represent the majority of Americans. I am all for more aggressive peaceful actions, but there is only so far that reasonable Democrats should stick their necks out on the internet. No?

We just need to face that that is part of the equation and carry on. Too much keyboarding. Not enough civil disobedience.

Quite a fight Obama put up on this one. Glen Beck should just call the White House next time and tell Obama what he wants done. Obama will do it and everyone will be saved embarrassment. Remember when Bush said he earned political capital and he was going to spend some. Obama should learn that one thing from Bush because it's "use it or loose it" time. Firing Jones didn't gain Obama any respect from the right it only lost him respect from his base.

Funny, but we NEVER had an ivestigation of what ACTUALLY occured - under oath - run by DEMOCRATS - and that looked into BLAME and PUNISHMENT for what CRIMES were committed.

I sure hope people realize that we STILL haven't received the SECOND part of that weazily "investigation" (whitewas) that the REPUKES promised us at the time!!!

But Obama has to do what he has to do so this won't bog down his agenda of trying to fix what the REPUKES did to this country...

Glad to hear that at least ONE of his inner circle has his head screwed on right...too bad he will be gone now...

201. TARGET!!!! Republican elected officials
We need to pressure democratic leadership to demand accountability from the ridiculous and dangerous statements coming out of the mouths of republican leaders in congress.

As far as Beck goes:

SEND YOUR GLENN BECK COMPLAINT TO FCC: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

-- Pass it on...

On Fox and Friends 7/28/2009 at approx. 3:07 PM EST, Fox host Glenn Beck accused President Obama of being "a racist."

The group was discussing the recent Gates controversy, and Beck exclaimed that Obama has "over and over again" exposed himself as "a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don't know what it is..."

When Fox's Brian Kilmeadeon pointed out that many people in Obama's administration are white, so "you can't say he doesn't like white people," Beck pressed on. "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem," Beck said. "This guy is, I believe, a racist."

Dear Sir or madam,

I find the racial hate speech spewed out by Glenn Beck obscene and disgusting and I do not want my children subjected to it . I believe the FCC has a responsibility to hold cable news channels, which regularly host elected officals at the federal, state and local levels on their shows throughout the day, accountable for programming hate speech to viewers. I would ask that you stongly consider fining Fox News for this offensive broadcasts, as well as take Fox News off "must carry" for basic cable.

Thanks for your attention.

Anyone who knows how to use Google (and I assume the Whitehouse has several such folks) could find the connections between Jones and the so-called "Truther" movement. So what? 259. Score one for Glenn Beck
So I knew nothing about Van Jones. Watched FOX news Sunday and here's what I learned-flat out as FACT per Chris Wallace-"Van Jones is a Communist."

Then I watched the debate about him signing a petition over 9/11 being investigated. A petition he signed in 2004-but never mind to ever ever dare question your government is treason-all on Fox NEWS sunday agreed.

They discussed nothing about comments he made about Republicons. The only thing that mattered was the real horror-daring to question your government-especially over it's crowing glory-9/11.

But I should have known-words are always what's bad in this society-letting people die or sending them to war-okay.

BAD WORDS-you gotta go!

Then I goggled Van Jones, and yep he is a Communist according to most links-zillions of right wing ones.

And he has been a pet project of Glenn Beck apparently.

Score another one for Glenn! He beats Obama!

Our goal is to empower our members—Black Americans and our allies—to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone."<1> Within two years of co-founding the organization, Jones moved on to other pursuits, but remains listed on the Color of Change website as "Former Staff".<1><21>"

Van Jones might have gotten away from having a republican 'lynch' mob come after him except for the 'straw that broke the camel's back' moment.

The coarse rhetoric included in the republicans' complaints were the remarks made by Jones characterizing republicans as 'assholes' (You Tube, anyone?).

Whatever happened to Jones, he brought it on himself. He was working for a man to whom such behavior is anathema. Jones couldn't control his ego enough to stick to his job and leave the macho jive talk out of the picture.

and try to find out what really did happen on 9/11 . . . hell, it's been almost a half century since JFK was assassinated, and we still don't know the real story of what happened that day in Dallas . . .

that no one in Washington wants a new investigation of 9/11 tells me that there's some truth there that no one wants to come out . . . everyone knows that the Commission and its report were both bogus, and that mountains of evidence were ignored . . . makes one wonder why, and what they're hiding . . .

9/11 is a huge cloud that's hanging over America's psyche, but it looks like no one in power is going to demand that the real truth be sought and reported to the American people . . . sad commentary on where we are as a nation when a crime of such magnitude can be swept under the rug by the powers that be . . .

304. Well, I am somewhat surpised.....
....he is gone. I don't agree with a lot of what he says or
believes in, but I thought he and Obama would have put up a
bigger fight.

305. I hope he didn't resign because he called repukes ass*****. They are
and if they don't want to be called ass***** they should stop teaching a lack of empathy to their followers.

306. BRING ME THE HEAD OF GLENN FUCKING BECK!
Yes, I'm being hyperbolic but no-one can tell me that this motherfucker isn't the main mover behind this "resignation".

311. Ad hominems up front?
First off, your diagnosis is woeful. A psychosis would indicate a psychological break from reality. While I am mentally ill and receiving treatment, I trust my doctor and psychiatrist rather more than I trust your ability to make a diagnosis on the basis of a single internet post. Having access to the DSM-IV doesn't mean you know how too use it.

Now, no doubt Jones made a bunch of stupid statements. However, while repeating those statements is fair game, the campaign of smear and innuendo Beck has directed at Jones is not. Prime example is the ten minutes or so he devoted a few days ago to "exposing communist propoganda" in New York architecture (90% of which he was flat wrong about), all leading up to the insinuation that because Jones had been honoured by an organisation that Rockerfeller (who, in Beck's alternate universe, was a commie), there must be some kind of sinister plot there. Bringing out straightforward accusations would give the accused the chance to defend himself but no-one can defend themselves against a cavalcade of innuendo, as the victims of the original McCarthy discovered. Beck also has an obvious ulterior motive in going after Jones: It is the group Jones founded (Color of Change) which has lead the ongoing boycott of Beck's advertisers, leading some 30+ (at last count) of them to pull their advertising from his show.

Why don't I devote my time to refuting Beck? For the same reason one does not throw the faeces back at the monkey.

their minds.

321. He'll probably still be an advisor to Obama
just a "silent" one. Daschle still advises Obama on health care.
