First Genetic Link Between Reptile And Human Heart Evolution Found
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 04:05 AM by zonkers
Source: Science Daily

Scientists at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease (GICD) have traced the evolution of the four-chambered human heart to a common genetic factor linked to the development of hearts in turtles and other reptiles.

(added on edit) The research, published in the September 3 issue of the journal Nature, shows how a specific protein that turns on genes is involved in heart formation in turtles, lizards and humans.

"This is the first genetic link to the evolution of two, rather than one, pumping chamber in the heart, which is a key event in the evolution of becoming warm-blooded," said Gladstone investigator Benoit Bruneau, PhD, who led the study. "The gene involved, Tbx5, is also implicated in human congenital heart disease, so our results also bring insight into human disease."

5. Those who freak out over the relationship between humans and monkeys
will have a meltdown over this.

Just wait till they get to the part that we are descendants of the primordial ooze.

6. So DNA proof;
That republicans are semi-human remains to be proved until that elusive gene causing them to evolve with no heart if found is still forthcoming.

Just saying.

7. I always thought Republicans were the genetic link between the reptilian heart and the human heart.
George W. H. Bush--a thousand points of light (ummm, what?0

George W. Bush---compassionate conservative (see Middle East wars, NOLA, etc.), faith based initiatives (see David Kuo)

And, need I add, just say no to affordable health care for Americans and everything else.

13. It's not hard.
Anybody that's learned to form decent hypotheses and test them--and then revise them--could do it in a snap.

In fact, in this case the tools are already "out there." It's even simple under a strict "brute force" creationism, i.e., skipping over evolution with a patina of theology (i.e., "intelligent design").

Why create everything different? Reduce, reuse, recycle. (The anti-evolutionists didn't use that slogan, but that's the gist of the argument dating back decades.)

On the other hand, "ontology recapitulates phylogeny" is always a very attractive proposal, and is how this will be viewed by some.
