Tony Blair was 'intimate' with my girlfriend: Foster
Convicted con man Peter Foster yesterday went public with the astonishing claim that his former fiancee, style guru Carole Caplin, conducted an intimate relationship with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

He alleged that while he was living with Ms Caplin in London in 2002, Mr Blair was "the other man" in her life.

London newspapers and Vanity Fair magazine are preparing to publish major investigations into Foster's allegations this week, catapulting the claims to the centre of the British political scene.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun-Herald from his Gold Coast home, Foster, the self-styled "human headline", said his revelations could bring down the British Prime Minister. He boasted that his 140,000-word, unpublished memoirs carried "a weapon of mass destruction" that he would unleash on No. 10 Downing Street in coming days.

He joked that Mr Blair need not worry about WMDs from Baghdad because they would be launched from the Gold Coast.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: "Peter Foster is merely trying to drum up publicity for his book. We have no intention in commenting."

8. Yup.
I disagree with you on Blair in general, but Foster is a whore for $$$ & either in another delusional fit of self-promotion or on the payroll of the reich. This sucks.

13. Depends on what the word "intimate" is?
Is Foster not using the word "sexual" because all he is really saying is that Tony, and not just Cherie, was under Carole's spell? This, in itself, is politically damaging. But, as far as dooming Blair, even if the relationship was an affair, I doubt it -- Brits and Europeans don't react in the same way to sexual indiscretions by political leaders.

6. While I agree that seeing the Poodle squirm
is nice, this business about bringing politicians down because they have *personal* issues with nooky troubles me. It troubled me with Clinton, troubled me with the recent attempt by Drudge to smear Kerry, and it troubles me with Poodle as well.

This guy launched an illegal war fercrissakes. Let's bring him down over that. Who cares about the bit on the side he happens to be shagging....

9. Yep! If this is true...
...it would explain why Tony Blair, a normally smart and capable PM, would follow the Chimp's lead into supporting a most unnecessary and illegal war.

This just might be the reason Tony went from PM to Poodle...

10. No. Bush wants nothing more than to take Blair out of the picture.
If this were true, they would have pulled it out around the time of the Hutton investigation when Blair was at his weekest, rather than now when it's not likely to do anything.

I firmly believe Blair is in Iraq is because he knows that to let the US go in alone would have been to allow a country which is intent on sabotaging the EU have total control over the spigot through which the fuel for European (and Russian) economic development flows.

11. Furthermore, doesn't anyone remember Rumsfeld's respons to UK ...
...participation? He didn't want it. He wasn't excited.

It's more likely that the US would have bribed Blair to stay out with this information rather than to go in.

15. That's actually the best excuse for Blair's actions that I've read, AP.

14. I don't like the sex angle
I would rather see him brought down for lying to start an illegal war, and the consequent mass murder of innocents he helped to cause.

17. Come on...
... guys and gals. If Blair is brought down, it won't be just for a "sex scandal". Had he not already so compromised his standing with the war, this would be a big media stir for a week amounting to nothing.

On the off chance this does spell his doom, remember, it is only so because he's hanging by the finest of threads already.

Personally, I don't care on what pretext he is served justice, as long as it is served. Purism and politics are simply mutually exclusive, and wishing it to be otherwise is futile and perhaps even naive.

19. You know what?
Foster is known as a convicted conman, he does have a book to push and I don't think that very many people at all belive him. If anything he's an even bigger teller of porkies than Blair.

20. That would be difficult!
But at least his porkies don't get thousands of innocent men, women and children killed, throw entire countries into chaos and threaten to reduce international relations to anarchy.
