Idaho GOP hopeful jokes about 'Obama (Hunting) Tags'

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - An Idaho Republican gubernatorial hopeful insists he was only joking when he said he'd buy a license to hunt President Barack Obama.

Rex Rammell, slated to run against incumbent C.L. "Butch" Otter in the May 2010 GOP primary, made the comment at a Republican rally Tuesday in Twin Falls where talk turned to the state's planned wolf hunt, for which hunters must purchase an $11.50 wolf tag.

When an audience member shouted about "Obama tags," Rammell responded, "The Obama tags? We'd buy some of those."

Rammell told The Associated Press Thursday he was just being sarcastic and sees no reason to apologize.

One person sent him an e-mail indicating he would ask the FBI for investigation, Rammell said.

Rammell tells the Times-News that it was a joke. But Rammell also sent Hopkins' story around to his media distribution list this morning.

4. It's one thing for the nut cases to come to an event and spout
this type of shit, it's another for talk radio assholes to encourage it, for some religious "leaders" to encourage it, but for political leaders of one of only TWO major parties to start with this crap...

They are gearing up to make the attempt.

The dog whistles for the "lone wolf" assassins is almost a constant white noise now.

It's coming. And soon, I'm afraid.

11. jeez, I didn't read your reply until after I posted mine but
I think you're right. Today, I was wondering what kind of dog Oswald had in the fight against JFK. I don't think there was anything except some stupid mumbojumbo about Cuba somewhere in the background. I've never heard why Sirhan Sirhan chose to gun down RFK, I mean it's not like he was doing anything to do away with Lebanese immigrants. (if S. Sirhan is not Lebanese, what ever nationality he is applies).

They, the idiots that speak this nonsence, can then say, "wow, a lone gunman with a bad attitude. How could have we known?"

38. Your post made me curious, so I looked up
Sirhan Sirhan

"Sirhan was born in Jerusalem to a Palestinian Christian family and immigrated as a child to the United States with his family. In his adult life, however, he made several religious conversions, joining Baptist and Seventh-day Adventist churches, and dabbled in the occult.<1>"

According to the wiki, Sirhan, whose mental health may be an issue, was motivated by Kennedy's support for Israel in the 6 day war.

14. Marine Indicted for Threatening the President
Why did I not hear of this case? Maybe the Secret Service ought to be seeking indictments against a few more of these "dog whistle" nutcases.

Marine Indicted for Threatening the President

U. S. Department of Justice
United States Attorney
Published: February 26, 2009

United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that on February 25, 2009, a Federal Grand Jury returned a single count indictment charging KODY RAY BRITTINGHAM, 20, of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, with threatening the President-Elect of the United States, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871, which has a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment followed by up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

The Indictment charges that in November, 2008, BRITTINGHAM threatened the life of then-President-Elect Barrack Obama. He stated, among other things, that he intended to shoot the President-Elect.

Mr. Holding stated: “We take all threats against the President and other high officials of the United States very seriously. The threat itself represents a disruption of the United States Government, even if no actual attempt is made to carry out the threat.”

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

Investigation of the case was conducted by the United States Secret Service. Assistant United States Attorney John Bowler served as prosecutor for the government

19. Rammell sorry if people misread 'Obama tags' remark
BOISE -- Rex Rammell, Republican candidate for Idaho governor, says his comments about "Obama tags" are not a big deal, but he apologizes if people think he wants the president assassinated.

The Twin Falls Times News reports that during during a discussion on wolves Tuesday night at a local Republican party event, an audience member shouted a question about "Obama tags."

-----

"I was just being sarcastic. That was just a joke," Rammell told the paper. "I would never support him being assassinated. "She kind of caught me off guard, to be honest with you."

But when CBS 2 talked with Rammell, he said the paper got his words wrong.
"The comment didn't come from me," Rammell said. "A woman asked about Obama tags and I just joked back..." that you'd buy some, we asked? -- "Yes. No, that we could sell some. They misquoted me."

The Times News, however, sticks by its Rammel quote.

Nobody we talked to found kidding about hunting tags for the president of the united states very humorous, and Rammell told CBS 2: "If people read into my comments I would want him assassinated then I apologize for that. That was not the intent of my comment."

http://www.2news.tv/news/local/55482562.html

Amazing how these comments go right over Repukes heads - like Grassley calling the guy who said he was a Right Wing Terrorist a Great American. IMHO the Repukes would actually secretly like to see something bad happen to Obama.

21. What's the difference solicitation or specific intent?
If he said he'd buy some, that indicates homicidal intent; if he said he sell some Obama tags, that indicates solicitation of a criminal act, namely homicide. Either way, inchoate crimes.

41. How insane is
this guy?

He sent ths story to his media distribution list? Why not just wear a sign saying "I'm out of my mind."

Get this:

Rammell also said Otter should have been first in line or ordered Fish and Game to save him the first tag and told Times-News reporter Jared Hopkins that the governor should have prioritized buying the tag over attending a former lawmaker's funeral.

He said "there's nothing wrong with going to a funeral" but promises as both a governor and a candidate should be followed through on. He questioned whether environmental groups pressured Otter to back off.

"He could've had someone go get it for him," he said. "Hell, he's the governor. He could've ordered the Fish and Game to give him the first tag."

42. From his website....
TEN PRINCIPLES TO GOVERN AMERICA

America was established by God for a righteous people. If American turns away from God she will fail.

The Constitution was inspired by God. The original principles set forth within its body are true and when strictly adhered to will keep us free.

The proper role of government is to protect our rights to life, liberty, and property.

Rights can only be taken away or limited when they interfere with another’s rights. Privileges on the other hand are subject to the will of the majority.

The Federal government should do only those things which the states can not do for themselves. State government should do only those things which the counties can not do for themselves. County government should do only those things which the individuals can not do for themselves.

Never ask a larger group to do that which can be done by a smaller group. The smaller the unit and the closer it is to the people, the easier it is to guide, to correct, to keep it solvent, and to keep our freedom.

He who governs least, governs best.

Capitalism advocates the principles of competition and choice in a free market setting and if allowed to operate without government interference is a proven formula for prosperity.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

The key to success of a free nation is a well informed electorate.

Why can't we come right back and say something equally evil like, "you've just made the list of people whose genitals we shall remove if the President is harmed."

I guess it's because we have a distaste for evil, unlike them.
