Madoff Dying of Cancer?
Source: FoxNY

NEW YORK - Rumors about Bernard Madoff's state of health are running wild where he is imprisoned.

The NY Post reports that Madoff is dying of pancreatic cancer.

The paper cites inmates at the prison in North Carolina who say the convicted Ponzi schemer takes about 20 pills a day to treat his terminal illness.

"He talks about it all the time. He's doing very well"- The Post quotes an inmate.

1. I suspected this almost a year ago
Bernie was enough of a con artist to keep this whole thing going for a few more years. I theorized that he got a "you've got six months to a year left to live" diagnosis, and he engineered having his sons turn him in, so that they would be able to keep their share of his ill-gotten goods. It would explain a quick guilty plea, and the sentencing sideshow was just a diversion.

27. It is suspicious, like Ken Lay and others
with political connections and/or lots of money like Madoff. On the other hand, the Lockerbie prisoner who was released for health reason may be different. The whole Lockerbie incident had something to do with Mid East politics and C.I.A intrigue aspects, a possible revenge bombing related to the U.S. downing of an plane carrying several hundred passenger over Syria, I vaguely recall. Maybe a DUer may have more info/memory could shed some light.

Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 11:46 AM by Fumesucker
And it was over the Persian Gulf..

Supposedly the most sophisticated naval anti aircraft vessel in the US fleet couldn't tell the difference between an airliner and an attack plane.

If it really was a fubar it was a truly massive one.

69. Great, thank you!
I was hoping some smart DUer would come up with the answer, much less an eye-witness to the shooting down of the passenger plane killing about as many as the Lockerbie plane. The U.S.S. Vincennes incident had the fingerprints of the C.I.A. all over it.

Same doctor as Kenny Boy? One wonders... same plastic surgeon? No, I do not put it past any of them.

Sorry, no compassion from me, even if he is really dying. ALL of us are dying. All his victims are gonna die too. All the worker bees in America who have had to shoulder too much of the burden so rich con artists could live so high are dying.

Boo hoo, Bernie, if you date is coming up sooner than we thought.

60. Here's what I assume...
Given the horrific nature of the U.S. prison system, and the fondness of many Americans for incarcerating people more and longer than just about any other country in the world, I assume that U.S. prisoners are not released on compassionate grounds simply by declaring themselves to be suffering from cancer or some other illness. I further assume they have to have one or more certified doctors attest that they do indeed have the disease they claim to have before an appeal to compassion would be considered.

Me, I'm inclined to be compassionate in these kind of situations, but I can see lots of people here prefer vengeance.

34. Update: Madoff Cancer Story Is 'Inaccurate,' Bureau of Prisons
http://www.cnbc.com/id/32538765

A report that convicted swindler Bernard Madoff is dying of cancer is "inaccurate," a US Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman told CNBC.

Madoff, convicted of swindling $65 billion through the biggest-ever Ponzi scheme, has told fellow prison inmates that he is dying of cancer, the New York Post reported Monday, citing unnamed prison sources.

The spokeswoman for the Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on Madoff's health besides saying the story is inaccurate. She said the bureau is seeking Madoff's permission to disclose his medical condition.

Madoff, 71, who since June has been serving a 150-year sentence at a North Carolina federal prison, has been telling fellow inmates he does not have much longer to live, the Post said, citing the unofficial and unusual sources.
