Bomb rips through rush-hour bus - Mumbai

Four people were killed and 31 injured on Monday night when a bomb ripped through a bus packed with commuters in Mumbai's bustling commercial centre during peak hour. Islamic rebels have been blamed for the attack.

Witnesses said the entire rear portion of the bus, which had been moving through heavy traffic, was torn apart while a bus coming in the opposite direction and a motorbike were also hit by the force of the blast.

"From the information we have, the blast was loud and a big one," a policeman said.

As police and forensic experts combed the cordoned-off area around the bus wreckage, Mumbai Police Commissioner RS Sharma said he suspected the Lashker-e-Taiba Islamic militant group had carried out the attack.
