China warns against missile defence systems

GENEVA — China's foreign minister warned on Wednesday that there was a "looming danger" of an arms race in outer space, as he urged countries not to deploy missile defence systems that could undermine global security.

"The practice of seeking absolute strategic advantage should be abandoned," Yang Jiechi told the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.

"Countries should neither develop missile defence systems that undermine global strategic security nor deploy weapons in outer space," he added.

US President Barack Obama has been reviewing a planned missile defence shield championed by his predecessor, which remains a major source of tension with Russia.

The "Yellow Bellied" us military was built, over the last 50 years or so, with the express purpose of destroying a large soviet force. China emulates the soviet model. The US is quite capable of killing people the old fashion way. See the firebombing of tokyo for example.

No one wants a war with china, but if one was to happen it would be very bad for all involved. China is not the wealthiest nation and had you ever been there you would not volunteer to go live 40 miles outside of any major city there.

Hey did you know that there are parts of china so polluted that they have to hand fertilize their plants because they killed all the bees? They are way over carrying capacity there any way and should expect a significant population correction.

you mean after tomahawks fired from subs and warships destroy every dam, power generating facility, yep. Blowing dams would kill millions alone. Standoff capability, something china does not have. The air force would remove the soviet era technology flown by china. With stealth aircraft, which china does not have.

Stealth aircraft that can drop gravity bombs like the b61 that yield a half mega ton with ZERO warning. China has zero second strike capability. They do not really need one but it is nice to have. Or stealth jets can destroy pretty much any thing china would not like to have blown up.

China, like the USSR relies on being a body shop to win wars. That practice did not work well in GW1, We killed division size groups with combined arty and air. Wounded under 100 people. Rest dead.

This is not a call to war with china, but a firm wake the fuck up. We spend trillions to gain force multiplication and just like Iraq in gw1, more people on the field just mean more bodies.

China develops weapons based on russian technology. That stuff does not do real well in open wars.

The S-500 is a Russian surface-to-air missile system, currently under development by the Almaz-Antey company.

The S-500 is a new generation surface-to-air missile system, designed for intercepting short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles with ranges up to 3,500 km and for defense against Airborne Early Warning and Control, Airborne Warning and Control System and jamming aircraft. It is an upgraded version of the S-400 SA-20 Triumf. The S-500 will be able to destroy ballistic supersonic targets flying at a speed of 5 km/s.<2>

As of 2009, the system is currently under design stage development at Almaz-Antey, and is planned to be completed in 2012. There is also a version of the system called S-1000, but it is not known what the difference between the two versions is.

S-500 will reportedly be able to outperform both the S-400 as well as the U.S. Patriot Advanced Capability-3 system.

Although sharing a similar designation, the relationship between this new S-500 and the S-500U project of the 1960s is unclear. The S-500U multichannel antiaircraft system was a 1968 initiative by the Soviet Air Defense Forces, Soviet Navy, Ministry of the Radio Industry and Ministry of the Shipbuilding Industry to create a unified complex for the National Air Defense Troops, Navy and Ground Troops. Missiles of the S-500U complex were supposed to engage enemy aircraft at a range up to 100 km.
