New A.I.G. Chief Set to Start — From Croatia?(Vacation after 3 days)
Source: NYT

Robert Benmosche, the chief executive officer of American International Group, plans to spend part of his first month leading the insurer in Croatia on vacation, two people familiar with the situation told Bloomberg News.

Mr. Benmosche, 65, who started Monday as chief executive and president of the bailed-out company, will leave for about two weeks, according to one of the people, who declined to be identified because the plans were private.

Mark Herr, an A.I.G. spokesman, said the New York-based firm would not comment on C.E.O. travel.

1. Or alternatively he could have had plans before he was hired.
Should people who get a new job be forced to cancel vacation plans made ahead of time?

3. Yes...
Generally employers frown upon you taking a vacation the first week of being employed.

2. In this case, yes. It's a matter of bad PR...
that the new head of a company struggling to survive and sucking up taxpayer funds can not be bothered to show up for the first day of work.

And I doubt that most people would, especially in this economy, would have the temerity to tell their new employer, "Thanks for the job offer, I'll get started right after I take a vacation."

4. Considering that it is a taxpayer owned venture,
What does he think he is a Senator?
