Former Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda says Asian countries should develop a unified security strategy to combat US influence in South Asia.

In an interview with the BBC, he said India, China and Nepal should work together to counter American power.

<snip>

Speaking at the Nepalese embassy in London, Prachanda said the emerging Asian economies should rely less on the West, especially the United States.

He said being the sole super power, the US was trying to have a greater influence in Asia, but India and China should come together to provide security and prosperity to their people.

1. K&R. My grandmother visited Nepal. This has got to be one of the poorest countries
in the world. She sponsored two children there. The group that she was involved with built a school there, where many of the children also lived. The second child that she sponsored lived there, since the first one was removed from the school by her father at 12, sent to work in a carpet factory and my grandmother didn't want her younger brother to suffer the same fate. The director of this group took the donations to the project in person, since anything sent through the mail would most likely be stolen. The Nepalese need the US as an ally. India and China have enough problems dealing with their own vast populations, many of them also unimaginably poor. :-(

6. Multi-polarity is an important concept, I agree.
Prachanda is right. India and China need to resolve their old disputes on a permanent basis and oppose US hegemony. Nepal has an important role to play to bring India and China together. It can be the Switzerland of Asia, as Prachanda has said.
