On CNN, 9/11 widows bashing Bush
They are calm, eloquent, wonderful. Saying that if Bush wanted to bring up 9/11, he should have mentioned that he was "on Air Force 1." Or, that he should be using this to "fix Homeland Security." So let's look at the scorecard: his admin has managed to piss off teachers and relatives of 9/11. Lookin' good, people! $150 million can't fix that.

1. Don't forget Firefighters.......
I just cannot get over that after all of our fear about once our nominee is chosen, and they open up the war chest, that it was going to be bad for us.

So they go and spend a few million dollars on ads, and the result is nothing but negative publicity.

8. And don't forget the 65% of people you yourself polled, CNN
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 10:38 AM by rocknation
The media is trying to portray this situation as the work of a handful of vociferous, disgruntled 9/11 family members. But then those pesky firefighters got in the mix, and I'm sure CNN ran the poll expecting that the results would allow them to agree with Karen Hughes that the "vast majority" of the American public consider the ads "tasteful."

3. Or that he could have used a picture

of Andy Card telling him about the second plane hitting the WTC while he was in the school classroom. I think this was a very subtle dig at Dubya's much commented on reaction (or lack of reaction) to Andy Card's news that's been the subject of so much comment and speculation on DU and other boards.

10. Kristen Breitweiser
ALWAYS makes the point about *'s utter inaction that morning.

STARTING with the fact he knew about the first plane *before* going into the photo op and ENDING with the fact that he sat for 20+ minutes after learning of the second strike.

if every American watched the FULL 20 minutes of that video, they'd have the perfect image of *'s "leadership"

4. Good
I hope this brings to light that we shouldn't focus on his reaction to the attacks, but his ACTION of prevention before the attacks. Could this have been prevented? If so why wasn't it, and what steps were taken/not taken to do so?

Bush is obviously psychotic if he's proud of 9/11

7. Keep the little man on the run....Also..
don't forget that it took bushie three days to address the nation. For cheezesake, this was only the worst attack on American soil. Yet, the leader was out hiding soiling his pants. Bastard!

To add, the only presidential leader on the ground of 9/11, comforting the regular American people was President Bill Clinton.

17. Clinton was in Australia when 9/11 occurred, and he still got to
the Ground Zero site before * did. Of course, we have to remember that Hillary is one of New York's senators, and Chelsea was only several blocks away from the WTC.

Now, he and Al Gore are showing they have more balls than * ever will (and I don't mean Monica, either) by testifying before the 9/11 commission without conditions.

19. Damned Right! President Clinton Didn't Go Hiding In a Bunker
George W. Pussy completely avoided having to make any decision whatsoever on 9/11. He did nothing but hide.

He ABANDONED the american people in our most desperate hour!!

21. Big Dawg 9/11
he had been in Australia and came hauling ass back to the US as fast as humanly possible.
Our apartment looks down on the Armory in NYC which became the first gathering place for victim's families.

I well remember the feeling of where the f8ck is aWol?

Then Clinton arrives, plunges into the huge crowd at the Armory, spoke with his usual comfort and eloquence.
We could see out our window that Big D was really really doemn in the scrum. Not a close-cropped, staged photo opp.
For a split second we felt a wee bit better.

Awol- liar- dickweed shows up days later, heavily controlled photo opps (no actual real people) as always and plays leader for a minute.

Thje fact that he's using the photo opp for his campaign is naturlly unsurprising but to me further confirms that he's at least party to LIHOP.

AND the RNC convening there ? Pissiing on graves.

9. What I think is great is that these family members and firefighters
and teachers can do more damage to bu$h then Kerry or any other politician for that matter. For Karen Huges to openly disagree with them does even more damage.

The bu$h team continues to shoot themselves in the foot.

13. Nope, I didn't think so.
Bush advisor Karen Hughes, in an interview with CNN, defended the ads.

"I respectfully, completely disagree," Hughes said of the criticism. "Your viewers saw the ad. I think it's very tasteful. It's a reminder of our shared experience as a nation. I mean September 11 is not just some distant tragedy from the past, it really defined our future."

14. She was on all the networks yesterday saying that she disagreed
with the widows of 9-11 who thought this ad was disrespectful. She was in full defense mode and I don't think she did the chimp any favors.

16. I follow that now
When your post said Hughes disagreed with 'them' and you followed it up with a statement about the administration shooting itself in the foot...well, you see where I was going :)

my mistake. thanks for the post

11. Don't forget . . .
On 9/11, Bush went into the classroom AFTER the first plane hit the north tower of the Trade Center. This fact alone should be repeated over and over again. Leadership my ass!

15. We need an ad
emphasising all of the warnings prior to 9/11 and a voice-over of Bush making that stupid statement a month later about his first thought being "that's an awful pilot". It could end with Andrew Card walking away and Bush sitting there with that dumb look while the children continue to read about a goat.

He's also ticked off the firefighters.

This is so amazing. I was sure 9/11 would be a great issue for him. Without that, he really is toast.
