Senate blocks contractors from sending federal jobs offshore
March 5, 2004, 5:27 AM

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Voicing anxiety about the flow of American jobs to foreign shores, the Senate voted to restrict federal contractors from using tax dollars to relocate work abroad.

The 70-26 vote Thursday to insert the ban into a corporate tax bill represented an early victory for Democrats, who have piled up a stack of proposals aimed at stemming American job losses to other nations. Democrats voted unanimously to back the ban.

Republicans were split over the restriction, though many said it would harm the nation's relations with foreign countries and eventually backfire.

"I think retaliation would be the order of the day," said Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. :scared:

1. Well, Kentuckians
I think I'd print out McConnell's remarks and make sure that every unemployed worker in the Bluegrass State knows that their Senator is in favor of outsourcing their jobs.

This is an issue with teeth, folks. Every time we find a statement by a Rethug that says they are for outsourcing, we should copy it (with source) and distribute it.

3. Not only outsourcing the jobs that they held...
but outsourcing jobs that they might have been able to apply for.

2. I wonder how this will turn out. I've been hoping
that SOMEONE would stop the bleeding of jobs.

Well done Dems! :hi:

If you call in Missouri for information on Welfare the call is answered in India. That really ticked me off.

5. Thanks for the reminder :( It's true that some of our Dems
DO NOT get it! Greed and the worship of the almighty tax break is infecting everyone these days, regardless of party. :(
