September 11 families disgusted by Bush campaign ads
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3553047&thesection=news&thesubsection=world

NEW YORK - Families who lost relatives in the September 11, 2001, attacks voiced outrage on Thursday at President George W Bush's first ads of his re-election campaign that use images of the devastated World Trade Centre to portray him as the right leader for tumultuous times.

"Families are enraged," said Bill Doyle, 57, of New York, who is active in several September 11 family groups. "What I think is distasteful is that the president is trying to use 9/11 as a springboard for his re-election."

"It's entirely wrong. He's had 3,500 deaths on his watch, including Iraq," said Doyle, whose 25-year-old son Joseph died at the trade centre.

1. Who can blame those people?
the bushies said they weren't going to politicize 9/11 and yet here they are doing just that. These people will never see their loved ones again and the bastards(excuse me) are trying to use it for their own gain. I'll bet Bill Doyle won't vote for bush in November. And I'll bet that Mr. Doyle will convince a lot of other people not to vote for bush.

4. It's Not Just the Ads
Bush has shameless exploited the event of September 11th to justify policies that he would otherwise not be able to implement. It's likely that Republican operatives are mystified by the reaction of the families of the victims. There's lots more to object to, but the ads are clear cut.

5. and he REFUSES to talk to the 9/11 commission
he'll only talk to the chair and vice chair

He REFUSES to talk to them for more than an hour

He REFUSES to testify under oath

What's he trying to hide?

This whole thing is going to blow up in his face. And he deserves every bit of it.

7. Write Letters to Editors.... everywhere, here is mine sent to a
lot of newspapers today...

Yesterday I was appalled at something I saw on the television. It was the very first advertisement I have seen for the re-election campaign of George W. Bush. It also marked the first time that I have seen images of the 9/11 tragedy used for gain.

Every day I see “Never Forget” emblazoned on fire trucks, fire houses, and government buildings. Has the GOP’s Presidential Candidate forgotten? It sure seems so:

• Bush told us he wouldn't use 9/11 for political purposes. As reported by the Associated Press on 1/23/03, President Bush said "I have no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political issue." Now he's doing precisely that.

• Just two weeks ago, the Bush/Cheney campaign attacked the notion of "playing politics with national security." As reported in Newsday on 2/20/04, Bush-Cheney spokesman Kevin Madden responded to charges that the White House has overtly politicized 9/11 by saying "I can't believe said that. They are playing politics with national security."

• And from the New York Daily News on 3/4/04, “Bush officials defended the imagery as totally appropriate.” "9/11 was the defining moment of these times," campaign manager Ken Mehlman told reporters. "Because of that day, America is at war and still is."
Steady Leadership in Changing Times? As the relative of and friend of several World Trade Center victims, I am deeply offended at this line of advertising. Even more so in light of:

• Bush still won't testify in front of the 9/11 commission. As the Daily News reported, many family members are especially upset because President Bush still refuses to meet with the whole 9/11 commission, which was set up to determine what went wrong in the lead-up to the attacks.

All these things (and many others) paint a frightening picture of an arrogant White House, one severely out of touch with average people of the United States and especially New York..
