Colorado Democrats state that Gov. Owens might run...
Just got this from the Dems....

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, March 3, 2004
Contact: Chris Gates

CHRIS GATES’ STATEMENT ON CAMPBELL’S WITHDRAWAL FROM SENATE RACE

Denver, CO—Colorado Democratic Party Chair Chris Gates issued the following statement today in response to Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell’s announcement that he will not seek re-election:

“As I’ve been saying for months, I’m not surprised to see Senator Campbell leaving this race. I think Senator Campbell realized that his prospects for re-election were fading by the day. I also think the impending Justice Department investigation of Senator Campbell's offices played a larger role in this decision than he is letting on.

“We all certainly hope Senator Campbell’s health improves and we wish him the best as he leaves office.

”We presume that Governor Owens is a likely candidate to replace Senator Campbell on the ballot. We would relish the chance to have a statewide debate with Governor Owens about the state of Colorado's economy and the state of Colorado's budget and fiscal policy.”

2. Bring on Mr. Family Values.
His wife is in the process of divorcing him and the state should have the opportunity to do the same. It will give us a chance to win both the senate seat and the statehouse.

3. Oh, God, we'd be stuck with that fundie LT. Gov, Jane Norton!
she is a witch lacking only the broomstick and as hypocritical a fundie RW "xian" as they come.

Time for the gloves to come off and Owen's cheating ways to come to light, something the media has been totally unwilling to touch up to now....

4. I am ashamed
that, as a 23 year resident of Colorado and a certified Repug-HATER, I confess I am completely unaware of Owens' marital scandal. Can someone toss me a link or two?

5. There are no links....
CO media is aware, but have not reported.... There are several out there trying to force the issue, but so far, the media is absolutely cowed... This may well change, if he runs for national office...

6. This is true
I've heard from democrats active in local politics here in Denver that Westword had the goods (something about a pregnant nanny or a pregnant someone who was not his wife) on Owens, but was holding off printing it. Maybe they were waiting for Just the right moment. God knows, Wesword (Denver's tabloid weekly) hasn't been shy about printing this stuff in the past.

8. They're Probably Holding Off....
...until they get definitive info about Bush's AWOL status with the ANG, his forcing his underage girlfriend to get an illegal abortion before Roe v. Wade, and Rush Limbaugh's life as Jeff Christie. That would make one HELL of an issue!!!!!!

13. I Heard Woman is Lobbyist
hope there's something to the mystery woman story, because for some dumb-ass reason, the people in this state overwhelmingly re-elected him.

11. Oh, believe me, there IS a scandal there...
information has been passed on to Westword and others, that is true. Several state government employees have stuck their necks out with the true story, but thus far, the press has been sitting on it... I can't say more, but there IS a scandal....

15. Here's a link!!
From my personal "Word" file I call "Republican Family Values". (It's now up to 47 pages!)

"Two days after announcing that he and Frances Owens, his wife of 28 years, were separating, Owens told his staff Tuesday that he is backing out of appearances as a keynote speaker for a Focus on the Family conference and before the Pennsylvania Family Institute. Both groups are dedicated to strengthening families and keeping them together. Owens, 52, Colorado's two- term conservative Republican governor who is considered a potential presidential candidate in 2008, has made family values one of the bedrocks of his political platform."

Here's the source. Date is 03 Sept 2003:

9. Last week when the Columbine videos were shown
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 05:29 PM by Kerryfan
I saw a victim's mother really let Gov. Owens have it. She said the victim's relatives got no help from him at all. He said right after the tragedy he would keep them informed and do anything to help and then they never heard from him again.
