Chip Pickering's wife sues alleged mistress
Source: Politico

The estranged wife of former Rep. Chip Pickering (R-Miss.), who served 12 years in Congress before retiring in January, has filed a lawsuit against his alleged mistress, claiming their adulterous relationship ruined the Pickerings’ marriage and his political career.

Leisha Pickering is suing Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd, her husband’s alleged mistress, for alienation of affection.

The Pickerings filed for divorce last year, but the case is not yet final.

Leisha Pickering says in her lawsuit that Creekmore Byrd originally “met and had a romantic relationship with Pickering which ended prior to their college graduation.

Chip Pickering, like Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, have lived in a Christian fellowship home on C Street. Both Ensign and Sanford have been the subjects of adultery scandals in recent weeks. Ensign had an eight-month affair with a former campaign aide, Cindy Hampton, and he resigned his leadership post after admitting to the relationship. Sanford secretly left the United States to met his Argentine mistress, setting off a national furor over his disappearance.

And she claims that Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour offered Chip Pickering the seat of former Sen. Trent Lott in 2007 but Creekmore Byrd “insisted that if Pickering accepted the position in the Senate that their relationship would not be able to continue….”

9. Damn, if I were still living in D.C.
I'd knit one and pay some drunk frat boys to tape it to the door.

4. I didn't realize they still had "alienation of affection" lawsuits.
They are a stupid concept in my opinion. The affair participant outside of the marriage is not breaking any vows to anyone within the marriage and has no obligation to the cheated-on spouse.

16. North Carolina still has them
I think some of our legislators have tried--and failed--to overturn them. The religious crowd loves these laws.

She is very hot. It may have been money that caused the problems.

11. This is a popcorn-eating moment...
For this reason alone:

"Pickering is now a lobbyist for Cellular South, a telecom company owned by Creekmore Byrd’s family."

So, he had to sleep with the mistress to get his next job?

15. Worse - he fought to get on the House Commerce Committee

he was co-chairman of the Congressional Wireless Caucus, this would be the group that pushed legislation that affected her family's cell phone company, the largest privately owned wire carrier in the US.

And he lived at C Street during the affair, he stayed in DC so much that during his reelection efforts questions were raised as to whether or not he was still a resident of the state.

Oh, and the affair caused her marriage to end. She and her husband divorced in 2007.
