Wilson Book Will Reveal White House Leak ( A campaign issue?)
http://www.publishersweekly.com/

by Steven Zeitchik, PW NewsLine: Wilson Book Will Reveal White House Leak -- 3/2/2004

The much-awaited May book from former ambassador Joseph Wilson will disclose who in the White House he says leaked information that led to the outing of his wife as a CIA agent, PW has learned. The much-awaited May book from former ambassador Joseph Wilson will disclose who in the White House he says leaked information that led to the outing of his wife as a CIA agent, PW has learned. <snip>

... The Politics of Truth, from Carroll & Graf, will reveal who tipped off syndicated columnist Robert Novak in July that Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA--a felony punishable by as many as ten years in prison--and the larger circumstances around the leak. The matter is the subject of a grand-jury investigation that has seen Novak, Wilson and a number of high-profile administration members questioned."

3. Great!
I hadn't heard anything on this lately and was afraid it had slipped under the carpet.
He said he wasn't going to let it lapse, and thank goodness he isn't.

23. Sometimes endorsements turn out to matter
Rudi's 1996 endorsement of Clinton is disqualifying for national Repub office. Even if nobody remembers it now they would see it a million times during the campaign.

11. They will NEVER drop Cheney
Because Cheney is in CHARGE.

It was clear from the recent newswire item: "Cheney dismisses talk of himself being dumped" or whatever it was. Quotes from Cheney and Bush etc.

Cheney is RUNNING THE SHOW. He takes power; he does not give it away. You know he "chose himself" as running mate. As a private citizen he's indictable, arrestable, etc. Not a chance.

13. Cheney has his house in DC, doesn't need the VP seat.
The secret hidey hole in his basement has already been payed with public money. He doesn't need the office perks or office space any longer. Pulling Bush's strings is as easy as being Carl Rove.

He could take the fall for Plame, claiming it was someone else, under his watch and so he must take responsibility. (Laughable to us because we know where he didn't take responsibilty.) But, to the faithful and following it will seem magnanamous.

15. But WHY would he do that? It would make him vulnerable.
I'm not talking about PHYSICAL vulnerability. I'm talking about, he could get arrested, charged, etc.

19. Okay, but, on what charges?
He didn't speak to Congress, and you can't charge him with being misleading on Meet The Press. Misreading Intelligence reports won't do it. Fighting for keeping his energy task force a secret, is fighting in the courts -- fine.

If, as I suggest, he takes responsibilty, he would not in that be taking blame or showing guilt for breaking the law of outing a spy. He can still claim he doesn't know who, thwarting harboring or accessory charges.

There are many avenues for walking away that wouldn't use the Plame scandal, the point would be to take as many of the current scandals as possible with him.

Don't bother with me too much, I'm just a political hack.

10. Wow. This is very good news!
If a book like this is coming out, it disallows the grand jury being a whitewash, doesn't it?

Seems like a lot of books are coming out...all bad for Bush.

Good deal!

17. This is how this should be an issue
Kerry needs to leverage this as:

A White House faking open dialogue on the threat of Iraq, a WHite House overting and coverting trying to silence and coerce dissenters from the invade-now party line, a White House cynically using post 9/11 security jitters to drag Congress into supporting military action to PROTECT THE US, when it was obvious well before the invasion that Iraq posed no threat, a White House obsessed with concealing ANY information contrary to their pre-conceived conclusions about Iraq.

This can be enormously helpful if used properly.

20. a quick reality check question:
This will, hopefully, bring the festering sore back to the surface for this (mis)administration. But one thing, how would Wilson know who did the deed, who leaked? He was outta the loop....

22. Maybe...
Maybe one of the reporters told Wilson or (more likely) implicitly used the info in questions to him.
