Reuters - A human rights group blamed Chechnya's president for the kidnap and murder of a prominent activist, the latest in a series of slayings of establishment critics in Russia.
Natalia Estemirova, a close friend of murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, worked for the human rights organisation Memorial in the Chechen capital Grozny and documented abuses by law enforcement agencies.

Kadyrov statements about the murder:
'The RIA Novosti news agency reported that Kadyrov had personally pledged to oversee the investigation into Estemirova's murder.
"Those who raised their hand against her have no right to call themselves human and deserve no mercy," he was quoted as saying.
"Life imprisonment is not enough for Estemirova's murderers, they must be judged as inhuman, who attacked not only a helpless woman, but our whole people."'
