Frist Stumps for Ban on Gay Marriages
WASHINGTON -- Saying same-sex marriages are likely to spread across America like a "wildfire," Republican senators, including Majority Leader Bill Frist, exhorted Congress Wednesday to embrace a constitutional amendment banning them.

"We simply will not let activist judges redefine that definition of marriage," the Tennessee Republican said a gathering of anti-gay marriage activists. "We will not let activist judges redefine -- I would say radically redefine -- what marriage is, and that is a union between a man and a woman."

Frist's broadside opened what promises to be a divisive election-year battle on Capitol Hill.

Using the Massachusetts high court ruling permitting same-sex marriages as an impetus, Frist said that Congress should not wait until the states make a final decision on the subject.

2. He's wasting his time
As the tireless researchers of DU found out last week, at least 45 senators are guarnteed 'no' votes, and based on the undecideds and unknown's positions, that number could rise to 60 'no' votes in the Senate.

This bill is more than DOA, it was never alive to begin with!

3. Let them try...
This is so important. But I want to say that it's interesting that this is sucking the life out of some other issues, including those that the Republicans think are advantageous to them. Has anyone else noticed the dramatically decreased attention to "war on terror" and international issues as they relate to this campaign? I think it's related to the marriage issue.
