Harper Spokesman Says Prime Ministerr Did Not Pocket Communion Wafer
Source: The Canadian Press

The YouTube video shows Harper reaching out with his right hand and accepting the wafer from a priest. Harper does not consume the wafer before the camera cuts away several seconds later....

A senator who attended the funeral jumped to Harper's defence. "I personally witnessed Prime Minister Harper consume the host that was given to him by Archbishop Andre Richard," Noel Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, said in a release Wednesday. ....

Henneberry also questioned whether Harper, a non-Catholic, should even have accepted the wafer, known as a host....

But another Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Arthur Bourgeois, who delivered the homily at the funeral, did not have a problem with the prime minister accepting the host. "Usually, to partake in holy communion in the Catholic Church, you have to be a member of it. But if you're not, exceptionally sometimes at major occasions (it is different)," Bourgeois told the newspaper.

4. They've never backed Harper's party.
His supporters are mainly crazed anti-Catholic evangelicals. They'd have freaked out if he'd SWALLOWED the wafer.

The Conservative Party of Canada(and its predecessor, the Progressive Conservatives) had an anti-Catholic history. For example, in one parliamentary riding that was heavily Protestant(in the 1957 general election)the Tories sent out an actor dressed as a Catholic priest to go door-to-door and ask people to vote for the Liberal Party candidate. The Tories took the seat comfortably.

9. There are some great visual responses to the line "it's a fucking Jesus contest"
But I'm pretty sure I'd be struck by lightening if I posted them here.

You can find them by entering the phrase "Jesus Fucking Christ" in Google Image.

14. Warren Kinsella doesn't agree
Conservative patronage recipient Noel Kinsella - a Conservative official, and no relation, believe me - claims he saw Stephen Harper consume that communion host. (My eldest son: "What was he doing? Saving it for a snack?")

This Kinsella was closer to the front of the church than "Senator" Kinsella - and I couldn't see what Harper had done (what's more, it wouldn't have occurred to me, before yesterday, to even look - the guy isn't a Catholic, for Pete's sakes, and he's not supposed to be even touching the Eucharist). Perhaps the "Senator" has X-ray vision, and is capable of seeing through heads from ten rows back.

So I call bullshit. Take a look at the video again, now seen by tens of thousands of people around the globe. Can you spot Senator Kinsella eyeballing the exalted Prime Ministerial lips?
