Members of the environmental group Greenpeace draped an enormous banner next to the carved stone faces of Mount Rushmore today, calling for more aggressive action to fight climate change.

The banner appeared to show President Obama’s face and the words “America Honors Leaders, Not Politicians. Stop Global Warming.” It was unfurled next to the image of Abraham Lincoln, on the far right side of the South Dakota landmark, starting about 12:30 p.m. EST.

1. Good for them!
That's one thing that I've always admired about Greenpeace!

Their ability to do guerrilla tactics...they excel at that.

3. Being somewhat acquainted with Jim Borglum, it's a good guess Greenpeace didn't need to worry much
about access to the site.

5. Global warming is like slavery.
It is totally destructive, and yet there are so many beneficiaries. And many will suffer consequences, while others won't know it exists. And most would rather fight than wake up and switch. And like slavery, we may eventually overcome the horrible situation in which we find ourselves. But only after a hell of a lot of work. Good for Greenpeace.

7. Well said
I have been a supporter of Greenpeace for decades. Several years ago, my neocon aunt visited me in my home and made some reference to "those Greenpeace sickies". What transpired next had something to do with the rapid advancement of poop through a goose. My aunt and I don't talk anymore, but I feel I am in much better company with the good folks of Greenpeace.

10. I love this action
Poetic, courageous, to the point, just,
in their faces.

Could we get some of these same attributes
in our leaders please.

12. That's terrible.
Mt. Rushmore should be preserved for its proper purpose, which is to serve as a location for Hollywood movies like "North by Northwest".
