Elsewhere, 4 GIs are killed on holiday marking pullback from Iraqi cities

A car bomb has killed at least 24 people near a market in the northern city of Kirkuk, police said Tuesday, as Iraqi forces assumed control for security in urban areas.

Tuesday's bombing comes as Iraqis celebrate what the government is calling National Sovereignty Day to mark the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraqi cities.

Police Brig. Gen. Sarhat Qadir said the explosives-laden car was parked near a crowded market in the city. He said at least 40 people were wounded in the attack.

The U.S. military said the four soldiers served with the Multi-National Division-Baghdad but did not provide further details pending notification of their families. It said they died as a "result of combat related injuries."

2. So when were the 4 injured in combat in Baghdad?
Hours before tells us nothing of when they were injured. It only tells us the 4 injured did die hours before the eve.

BAGHDAD – Iraqi police say a car bomb has exploded in the northern city of Kirkuk, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens.

Tuesday's bombing comes as Iraqis celebrate what the government is calling National Sovereignty Day to mark the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraqi cities.

The U.S. military also says four U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in Baghdad on Monday.

The two attacks are deadly reminders of the dangers still facing Iraq as Iraqi forces assume more responsibility for their own security...http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090630/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_iraq

Reuters: Bomb kills 25 in Northern Iraq as U.S. troops leave
By Tim Cocks and Muhanad Mohammed

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A car bomb in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk killed at least 25 people on Tuesday, just after U.S. troops handed over full control of Iraq's cities to the domestic security forces six years after the invasion.

The bomb, which wounded at least 40 people, struck a busy market in a largely Kurdish part of Kirkuk, a city viewed as a potential flashpoint between the Shi'ite Arab-led central government and Kurds. Police said the death toll could rise.

Many Iraqis fear the U.S. pullback from towns and cities and into rural bases, the first step towards a full U.S. withdrawal by the end of 2011, leaves them open to attack.

7. Nothing is going to change...
The bombings and killings will continue whether the U.S. military is there or not.
