Obama to host reception for LGBT community
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Barack Obama will host a White House reception Monday in honor of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, but faces criticism for not keeping campaign promises to the community.

"I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans," the president said in a proclamation this month. "These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing "don't ask, don't tell" policy in a way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security."

1. I think Obama needs to move his LGBT promises up on the priority list, HOWEVER did he break any. . .
. . .promises. It seems he is guilty of not moving fast on those issues, but I don't think it is fair to say he is breaking promises.

2. I believe . . .
it would be a most excellent week for the president to issue an order suspending the enforcement of DADT. Stonewall anniversary, meeting with LGBT leaders. With Ensign and Sanford, the right is looking particularly weak on morals. The timing's never been better!

Amiright?

4. This is real change in the government.
There isn't one RWnut that would have the nerve to do this. Obama is higher than all who have come before him.

5. Progress is being made
Openness and negotiation are the first step. I see this as a very good move in part of the President.

10. His press secretary said no. Just cocktails.

They are not happy that the LGBT community is holding back contributions.

Only A-Listers are invited. The A-Listers who still are supporting Obama no matter how many times Obama compares them to incest predators.

Your actions speak far louder than your pretty words.

Maybe when you stop breaking your promises, we'll have reason to believe you're not a bigot.

8. I think Obama should and could
abolish DADT. Then continue giving most of his attention to healthcare reform, and the ongoing economic situation. Then on the weekends he can get back to Iran, and maybe a little later he can see how that troop leaving holiday in Iraq is going. Sounds like he's a busy man

12. As your President.............

I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full
equality in their family and adoption laws. I personally believe that civil unions represent the best
way to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should not
stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and
lesbian couples — whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage.
Unlike Senator Clinton, I support the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
– a position I have held since before arriving in the U.S. Senate. While some say we should repeal
only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether. Federal law should not
discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does.

13. Eh...
Pretty words. Where are the actions the match them?

Q3JR4
Because actions speak louder than words.
