Search ends for Air France dead
Source: BBC

The Brazilian military says it has ended its search for bodies from the Air France jet that crashed into the Atlantic almost a month ago.
Fifty-one bodies have been recovered since the plane went down on 1 June. A total of 228 people were on board.
A Brazilian spokesman said the recovery of any more of the bodies was "impossible".
But a French-led search for the plane's black boxes - which will emit signals until at least 2 July - will continue.
The cause of the accident has not yet been established. The Airbus 330 was flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it plunged into the sea.

1. I imagine th rest went down with the plane to the bottom of the ocean...
If they find the aircraft, they'll like find most of the rest of the bodies...

14. That would at least help the loved ones...
Saw another documentary on 9/11 not long ago, maybe you saw it, too, and the desperation of those who loved the people who were never found really got to me. No matter what happens, you always hope to see those you love most, once again. ;(

2. Northwest Jet Suffers Similar Malfunctions to Air France Flight
In case you missed it...

(snips)

During the brief but dramatic event, the Northwest Airbus A330's crew was left without reliable speed measurements for three minutes. In addition, the computer safeguards designed to keep the aircraft from flying dangerously too fast or too slow were also impaired. Like the Air France A330 jetliner, the Northwest plane entered a storm and quickly started showing erroneous and unreliable airspeed readings.

According to the memo written by one of the crew, the twin-engine Northwest jet was cruising at 39,000 feet when it "approached a large area of rain below us." The plane's weather radar indicated only light precipitation or perhaps ice crystals straight ahead. The memo recounts how pilots were surprised to see substantial rain "streaming up the windshield" at that altitude and "the sound of the plane getting pelted like an aluminum garage door."

In the course of five seconds, according to the memo, airspeed indicators for both the captain and copilot showed a huge rollback in the plane's forward velocity. The standby indicator also rolled back. With autopilot and automatic-throttle controls disengaged, the cockpit was filled with beeps and bright warning signals indicating various system malfunctions.

According to the Northwest crewmember's account, the captain "hand flew the plane on the shortest vector out of the rain."

7. Wow that took a lot of effort
but getting back to the story at hand I will not be flying on any Airbus. This whole story is just gut-wrenching imagining the last moments of the Air France Flight victims.

8. You are correct...
about the story being gut-wrenching, not the effort (Ctrl C, Ctrl V). The fact that they cannot even recover the remaining bodies is heart-wrenching too. (I did not mean to make light of this tragedy, I just needed to vent over...well, you now know)

sarcasm was needed in a thread about people falling 39,000 ft out of the sky.

16. We are so damn behind
Utmost disappoaintment....With human kind exploring the Mars and jupiter... sounds pathetic when they cant even trace something in the earth itself...I know its well said than done...But we are sooo far behind nature...Don't know who termed the word nature? I guess I am blaming it to nature while it can be a design flaw or maintenance issue...damn...is there a hidden force somewhere....I heard one of passenger who missed the plane died the following week...sounds like a "Final Destination" Plot but is there really something very strong thats plays the role??? I believe in science but still is there a science that we don't know of yet ????
