Man charged with threatening politicians
Source: Raleigh News & Observer

RALEIGH — Police charged a 46-year-old man today with threatening to kill a host of local and national politicians that included everyone from President Barack Obama and Gov. Beverly Perdue, to Mayor Charles Meeker and his wife.

Vangelos, a tall man with shaggy gray hair, appeared nervous but polite before a county magistrate this afternoon. He was clad in green athletic shorts and a gray T-shirt as if he was about to take an afternoon jog instead of facing accusations he wrote letters threatening to kill Meeker and Perdue. Vangelos held a court document up to his face to shield himself from several television cameras. . . .

The charges include: On June 12, police said he sent a threat letter threatening to kill Gov. Perdue and blow up her home, arrest warrants show. Nearly one year before on July 9, police say Vangelos wrote a letter that threatened to cut off former Governor's Mike Easley's head, hang his wife Mary and also decapitate state Sen. Daniel Blue, court records show.

Others who appeared on Vangelos' hit list included congressmen David Price, Brad Miller and Bob Etheridge, Wake County Commissioner Betty Lou Ward, City Manager Russell Allen, Wake Sheriff Donnie Harrison, President Obama and Mayor Meeker's children, court records show. Investigators have accused Vangelos of mailing out envelopes to various Raleigh City Council members with the words "Death Notices" written on them, court records show. . . . Police have also accused Vangelos of threatening to blow up the Meeker and Easley residences, the state legislative building and the Mexican Consulate on Six Forks Road, court records show.

I know people are pretty mad at the Easley's right now, but cutting off his head?

Another right wing lunatic . . .

1. I think he may be more of the 'generic' lunatic type.
Seems he hates politicians, no matter what.

We need mental health care in this country, badly, for everyone.

Given, he's nuts,... but not really "insane".... he's obviously a neurotic hater who finds comfort in RW hate mongering. Many do. They could be dangerous if spurred on too much. Are you getting it O'Reilly? Limbaugh? Coulter? The GOP are obviously "his people". He is also such a wanker coward that he likes to make threats but goes all limp and is ashamed when he must suffer the consequences.

5. Guy already receives S.S. for a disability of some sort.
Mental issues that need to be addressed before someone gets hurt, including him.

Kinda sad, actually.

We have a guy like that in our town, doesn't work, everyone knows him, goes to every council meeting and has problems with any and all ordinances passed, contests every zoning change, and generally makes life a pain for city government. I worked with his poor, long-suffering wife and my son is friends with their kid.

But he never threatens anyone with harm. When told his time is up, he usually sits down and stays quiet. Once or twice he needed to be escorted out as he couldn't refrain from making comments from the audience, but he gets the message and cools his heels for a bit.

His show on the local public access channel is a real hoot, however.

6. All except Donnie Harrison -
I wonder how he got on that list - of course, Harrison isn't a winger and gets a lot of support from Dems, so maybe that's enough.
