...State Rep. LaNett Stanley-Turner (D-Atlanta), for instance, said Monday she probably would vote in favor of the constitutional ban.

It was immediately pointed out that Stanley-Turner is the secretary of the Democratic caucus. State Rep. Tyrone Brooks promised her a conversation.

"If she is going to vote with the Republicans, maybe she should be the secretary for the Republican Party, not the Democratic Party," Brooks said. "How we vote as a Legislative Black Caucus could very well determine the fate of the Democratic Party. This is hard-nosed, guerilla-tactic politics. I hope the caucus will do some soul-searching on this issue."

That leaves supporters of a constitutional ban with 116 "yes" votes that were cast last week -- down from 117, given the defection of state Rep. Henry Howard (D-Augusta), another African-American....
