towards the legitimate desire for truth of a large section of the Iranian population is inexcusable.
Having already isolated its people by choosing self-imposed exile from the international community,
Teheran is now depriving them of their most basic democratic rights. It is up to the Iranians to choose
their own leaders
The election results must be clarified, because the Iranians have a right to transparency and truth. The
repression and violence against peaceful demonstrators must cease because they are unjustified.
Freedom of speech and communication and the work of journalists, both Iranian and foreign, must be
respected.
The international community is not asking this for its own sake. We are asking it for the Iranians,
whose choice must be respected. We are asking it for the Iranians, who cherish their democracy and do
not wish to see it trampled. We are asking it for the Iranians, that great people, who deserve so much
better than what their leaders are condemning them to."
