Supreme court orders construction of wall suspended
Associated Press

Jerusalem — Israel's Supreme Court on Sunday ordered the government to suspend work for one week on a section of the West Bank security barrier around eight Palestinian villages, an attorney said.

The decision followed a bloody protest last week against the barrier by people who live in the area northwest of Jerusalem. Israeli troops fired live ammunition at the crowd, killing two people.

Meanwhile, Israeli security forces arrested three Palestinian youths in the West Bank who planned to carry out a suicide attack out of anger over the barrier, relatives said Sunday.

Russian lawyers fly to Qatar to defend detainees

Interfax. Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, 1:22 PM Moscow Time

MOSCOW/DOHA. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Russian lawyers flew to Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Sunday, to provide legal defense to two Russian citizens arrested on suspicion of killing Chechen separatist leader Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, a Russian diplomat told Interfax from Doha.
On Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov said that Russian lawyers would work in Doha "to defend the rights of the detained Russian citizens, are seriously preparing for their defense."
Three Russians attached to the embassy in Qatar were arrested in Doha early on February 19, "with the use of weapons and force." One of them, a holder of a diplomatic passport, was later freed as a result of efforts by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Yandarbiyev was killed in a car bombing in Qatar on February 13
