In leaving the committee, McHugh also gives up his position as ranking member. McHugh explained that the Republican Steering Committee deserved the time to begin vetting his colleagues who have expressed interest in replacing him as the top Republican on the panel.

McHugh said he planned to send a letter informing leadership of his decision on Wednesday afternoon.

1. Oh man, I read that wrong
When I first read this I thought he was pulling a Gregg and backing out of his appointment. You know the pukes will be putting pressure on him to not leave his congressional seat.

Politico, of all places, has a decent article detailing the political smarts Obama is showing how he can be bipartisan and at the same time putting a decent congressional seat up for grabs.
