WaPoA teenage mother was killed and three other young adults were wounded in Prince George's County late last night when gunfire broke out on the street in a townhouse community near FedEx Field, authorities said.
Shai R. Caldwell, 19, of the 4000 block of Windflower Way in Bowie, was fatally shot in the upper body, Prince George's County police said. The other three victims' injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was connected to a fight that began yesterday during graduation ceremonies for the Charles H. Flowers High School Class of 2009, a police source said. The graduation was held at the Comcast Center on the University of Maryland campus, police said.
Hours later, some 100 people are believed to have gathered at the townhouse complex -- in the 9000 block of Continental Place, just inside the Capital Beltway and about one mile southeast of the football stadium -- for a graduation-related celebration.
Police and neighbors said the shooting broke out shortly before midnight. The young woman who was killed had a 15-month-old child, police said. It was not immediately clear whether she or the other victims -- two 20-year-old women and a man, 22 -- had attended or graduated from Flowers.
