FCC: 35 Stations To Go Dark June 12
Source: Multichannel News

The Federal Communications Commission said Wednesday that 35 full-power TV station now broadcasting in analog indicated that they will cease operation entirely on June 12, when all full-power stations must transition to digital.

Of those, 20 are owned by one company in bankruptcy and seven of the 30 stations are affiliates of a major network.

The FCC said it would try to reduce the number that would go dark, saying some would be available on the subchannel of another digital station.

That news came at the FCC's public meeting Wednesday on the status of the DTV transition.

The article doesn't list the 35 stations which will go dark. I supposed we are expected to just wait and see.

Another article mentions that Fox station KLMN-TV in Montana will stop broadcasting since it doesn't have digital capabilities.

2. Also, Canada is not going digital. At least not around Detroit.
Everyone else has gone digital. Our ch 20 and PBS 56 quit broadcasting analog already.

ABC ch 7, lowered it's analog power.

Ch 9, Windsor, Ontario still broadcasting in analog and will not change to digital at all. They moved their broadcast antenna further from US a few years back. Now we need passports to travel across the river. It sucks.

3. just when space aliens across the universe figure out how to read analog, we turn them off

Poor space aliens - they will have to start over trying to figure us out - I don't know if Jodi Foster can save us now. (sigh)

8. At least it will be warm if I have to climb on my rooftop
to install a replacement antenna . . . sigh.

Crossing my fingers that the local stations actually boost their digital transmission power on 6/12 so it isn't necessary.

9. I don't understand, why not just run both?
I mean X frequency will be used if it's analog or not, and it's not like local stations aren't providing a public service even if in *false gasp* analog!

this is all so fucking stupid to me, but I'm an engineer and prone to use logic and common sense... so what do I know.

10. The analog frequencies aren't available for TV
anymore. They ware/are going to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Add to that the expense of running/maintaining two transmitters and most broadcasters can't wait to shut down their analog stuff.
Personally, I hate digital TV.
