Poll Woes for Bush

(CBS/AP) The four Democrats still officially seeking their party's presidential nod will debate Sunday for the last time before Super Tuesday, even as a new CBS News poll shows President Bush's approval rating slipping below 50 percent for the first time in that survey.

Some 47% of Americans now approve of the way the President is handling his job, while 44% disapprove.

The same poll shows a John Kerry/John Edwards ticket beating one headed by Mr. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in the fall election, by a margin of 50 percent to 42 percent.

28. rumors like this are great for us!

They aren't going to replace Cheney for several reasons --

1. the base loves him
2. IMO, the bushes don't want a VP that can run in '08 or '12 because they want to keep the door open for jeb (note I said the bushes personally, not the republican party)
3. replacing cheney -- even for "health" reasons -- would make them look like they are on the ropes. If we make them concede they are in trouble, they really are.

That third reason is why rumors like this are good for us. Even the speculation makes them look worried.

7. I am very wary

of John McCain. He runs hot and cold and I never know just which side he is going to lean. If I remember correctly (and someone tell me if I am wrong) he said he would not seek another Senatorial seat. This would be his last. Maybe he is tired of politics but the VP position would be very tempting. I hope Cheney stays as he has a lot of baggage that will hurt him.

This guy likes Edwards but will probably vote libertarian (instead of bush again) if Kerry is the dem. I mentioned I didn't mind McCain yesterday (his post SOTU comments on * were so funny) and he launched into a list of all the reasons and symptons that showed that in his professional opinion McCain was mentally unbalanced and would require many many years of therapy. I geuss thats what comes from 7 years in a tiger cage.

he is a therapist...actually he trains therapists and offered it as a professional opinion based on interviews he has seen with John McCain - not that JM said anything crazy, but things like speech patterns, physical tics, emotional outbursts etc that led him to think the guy could use therapy for very specific issues.

This is AFTER the gay marriage amendment coverage has probably hit its peak for now. Despite Chimp's desperation in using such a sad, sad technique, it has failed miserably. THAT's excellent, excellent news for us. If we can keep the Chimp's negatives high for the entire spring going into summer, we can create the image that a Bush defeat is all but a foregone conclusion, which will help our ticket pull-in an additional 1-to-2% from the vote-for-the-winner effect.

35. It may be the first time

that his poll numbers slipped below 50% in THAT survey, but in other surveys his poll numbers have been below 50% for quite some time. This is great news and needs to be broadcast over and over again so that the sheeple get indoctrinated into thinking that he ain't gonna get reelected. Once we get a confirmed candidate we all need to get behind him and show support with yard signs, bumper stickers, pins, etc. The way the people in this country vote, the majority of them will vote by the number of signs they see. A Kerry/Edwards ticket would be fantastic!

37. Just don't ever look for his approval rating to go below

about 30% at the LOWEST. There IS a certain contingency of people who would NEVER vote against him, NEVER not support him.

In other words, if he appeared dressed in nothing but a pink tutu, holding a milkshake in one hand and a monkey's HEAD in another and proceeded to take a dump on the White House lawn whilst singing "How Dry I Am", those are the people who would find SOME way to explain/defend/rationalize it and would still vote for him. Not only that, but they'd gladly spit on anyone who wouldn't, if given half the chance.

In other words, they are certifiably insane.
