Users of medical marijuana defend its benefits
by Brian McVicar | The Muskegon Chronicle
Saturday May 30, 2009, 9:38 PM

Anthony Jourden remembers the vomiting, the days spent lying in bed when he couldn't muster the energy to stay up.

Jourden's first week of chemotherapy was the stuff bad dreams are made of -- nausea, shaking, depression, a three-day stint with no food.

"I was real pale and sickly looking," said Jourden of Muskegon Township, who uses chemotherapy to treat a rare form of cancer that formed in his abdomen and resulted in small tumors forming on his liver.

If it wasn't for medical marijuana, Jourden, 29, doesn't want to imagine what condition he would be in today.

"Without it, I would be skin and bones," said Jourden, who has been undergoing chemotherapy since July 2008. "It kind of gave me a reason to get up in the morning to be honest with you."

1. They need to sue the DEA and FDA for fraud in their claim that Marijuana has no medical uses.
If only to establish the difference between something that actually has no medical uses and something they don't want to have medical uses to create a market for the Pharm Co's. It would be wonderful to be able to walk into a drugstore and find both a drugist and an apothicary behind the counter. It appears that the pharm co's are deathly afraid the apothicaries will make a come back. Just when the pharm co's were sure they had finally killed their older brother the apothicary to steal his art. The Apothicary comes crawling up out of his grave with marijuana in hand. Now America needs to establish it's right to apothicary medicine. That can be done in the up coming health care debates.

7. medical marijuana use
when my mother was dying due to throat cancer, the doctors
gave her a pill form of marijuana to increase her appetite,i
think it's effective for your appetite. but as far as pain and
nausea, i don't agree,i have trigemenal nuralgia and due to an
operation that gave me numbness in my throat, i get nausea
after eating. marijuana does not stop or lessen the pain or
nausea.so it does not help me, but i can't speak for everyone.

5. Probably from our puritanical roots
It seems that everything that someone may enjoy that doesen't directly involve worship of god is blasphemy to some puritans, which I hate to say is a large part of the history of this country. IE, sex that is monogamous but is not sanctioned by the church, sex that is monogamous but is sanctioned by the church but isnt done for the purpose of making babies, dancing, drinking, gambling, sports, theatre, movies, certain books, some music, anything that may make someone happy in other words. Basically we should be spending all our times walking around like those monks from Monty Pythons holy grail and singing hymns while bashing our heads on our prayer boards.

Yet booze and cigs are legal. We're a schizo land.
