Human Rights Defenders charged for publishing posters in Kurdish on the International Human Rights Day in December 2003

In December 2003, posters published and distributed nationally in Turkish and Kurdish by the Human Rights Association (ÝHD) to commemorate the Human Rights Day on December 10, were confiscated on the order of the Public Prosecutor in Van, Hakkari, Adiyaman and Mardin. Posters in Kurdish were also confiscated in the ÝHD Headquarter in Ankara.

Hüseyin Cangir, the Head of Mardin Branch, is charged under Article 536 of the TPC for hanging the posters on billboards belonging to the municipality without permission from the governor in connection with the hanging of posters carriying statements saying "Peace will win, all equal, all different" in Turkish and Kurdish
