Israel to attend Americas summit
Sat May 30, 4:43 am ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israel's deputy foreign minister will attend the annual summit of the Organization of American States next week in a bid to counter Iran's growing influence in Latin America, an official said on Saturday.

Danny Ayalon plans to meet representatives of several Latin American states at the summit in Honduras as arch-foe Iran tightens trade and military ties with a number of countries, mainly Venezuela and Bolivia, the official told AFP.

"Israel sees in the summit a chance to deepen economic and diplomatic ties with Latin America and to match Iran's and (the Lebanese militia) Hezbollah's involvement in the region," said the official, who asked not to be identified.

The decision to send a high-ranking Israeli representative to the OAS summit for the first time in years stems from Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's plan to bolster diplomatic ties in regions such as Latin America and Africa.

4. Israel's plan to deepen economic and diplomatic ties with Latin America
Means one thing. More US taxpayer dollars funneled to black ops. I'm sure Ileana Ros is behind this move 150%.

From her site (it hurt my eyes)..

Serving in this role, I have been a tireless advocate for the advancement of human rights across the globe, as well as continuing to be a strong voice in opposition to Castro’s dictatorial regime in Cuba. This marks a long involvement in foreign affairs, having previously served as Chair of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia, the Subcommittee on Africa, the Subcommittee on International Operations and Human Rights and as Vice-Chair on the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.

7. It this were anything but bs, it wouldn't be decided a WEEK before the meeting.
Not only is this stupid, it's also rude to the other members. Maybe Hillary will give another lecture on democracy.

between Latin America and Persia/Iran is that interference and oppression by the USA. Since that don't apply to Israel they don't fit in anywhere in particular other than being a general all round nuisance.

9. They are helplessly driven to go there in desperate hope they can learn how to do this:
They seek what the Amazing Dancing Kid from Colombia can teach them.

16. Latin America has no use for high tech equipment?
computer software, medical technology, etc? Both Microsoft and Intel have R&D centers in Israel.

And lets not forget that Israel military gear is highly regarded world wide.

11. Thank goodness she's only the Ranking Member now. She's unbelievably destructive.
Time for her and the other Miami fascists to be phased out of national politics.

Being pro Zionism, anti Castro (and by extension, anti Chavez, Morales, etc) is prerequisite in American (and most especially Florida) politics.

Tit for tat. They have a common cause. IRL still has the ear of the rest.

18. Israel has friendly relations with Cuba, which has a thriving Jewish community
Although Fidel Castro has been respectful towards the Jews, he has been generally hostile toward Israel. Originally Castro was very supportive of Israel, mostly due to sympathy he had for Jews as victims of facism and his identification of the State of Israel as a socialist country. As a result, Cuban foreign policy was generally sympathetic towards Israel. Following the Six-Day War in 1967, things changed. Castro broke relations with the Israel just before the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He also sent Cuban soldiers to participate in battles on the Syrian side.

In 1974 the Cuban government invited Yasser Arafat to visit Cuba and provided advance training for the PLO and other Palestinian military organizations. On October 12, 1979, Castro made a speech at the U.N. claiming that Israel was committing genocide against the Palestinian people, similar to the "genocide that the Nazis once visited on the Jews."

Opposing Israel has led Castro to aspire to the leadership of non-aligned nations and to gain support from Arab countries in the United Nations. It also has become a way for Cuba's leader to take a stand against yanqui imperialism and express his hatred of the power concentrated in the United States.

By the late 1980s, relations warmed up somewhat. In 1988, an official delegation from Cuba visited Israel to study irrigation methods. In 1994, Israel's chief Ashkenazic Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau visited Cuba and was cordially recieved by Fidel Castro. Israel has also taken advantage of Cuba's new openness to foreign investment, investing in the Cuban citrus industry and inciting the anger of the U.S. government.

Israel has a Communist Party, while Iran has persecuted theirs. The theocrats in Iran stand in opposition to everything Socialists believe in.
