Dennis Kucinich, Still Waiting to Be Called On
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A13699-2004Feb27.html

He knows that we know that he knows that we don't know why he is still running, and so here sits Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), all the way at the end of Larry King's temporary CNN conference table, under the now familiar heat of television wattage and mauvey election-year color schemes, on an auditorium stage at the University of Southern California for Thursday night's Democratic candidates debate.

He's been seated so far down there it's like someone forgot he was coming and had to get out an extra chair. In news photos, he looks blurry, obscured (and obscure), despite all his leftward clarity. Always smiling, with a set of translucent veneers, Kucinich is wearing a blue shirt and golden-hued necktie and a pinstripe suit with a tiny bit of schmutz on one of his jacket pockets.

This goodwill and perseverance, the whole "Fear Ends, Hope Begins" stick-to-itiveness of Kucinich '04 turtledom works no charm on the cranky, frowny version of Larry King, who earlier was reportedly griping that all four remaining candidates were late. Several minutes into the debate, King peers down toward Kucinich's marginal world and, in the accusatory manner of a Donald Trump addressing an employee he thought he'd fired already: "Congressman Kucinich, why are you here?"

2. Link on top is to the article
There are two links- the bottom one didn't work for me either.
The article (IMHO) is both awesome and bitter. Dennis rocks and the media just can't feel his groove.

3. Oops! Thanks!
I'm, like, DUH!

Well, I'm voting Kucinich this coming Tuesday -- SOME of us recognize his worth.

The article is a bit strange, imho. Not quite mocking, but not quite sincere either. I guess it's nice that he's at leasting THIS bit of press.

4. Right on! I have yet to convince my sibs of Dennis' worth
They both vote on Tuesday (CA & NY) and both are stuck in the 'strategerizer' mode. I have been pressing hard for Dennis, and we'll see what the weekend brings.

6. What could be more "strategic" than voting for the true progressive?!?
At this point, a vote for Kucinich isn't going to hurt the "anointed" candidate (Kerry), but it will HELP the cause of bringing a progressive agenda back into the Democratic party.

We NEED a good block of Kucinich delegates at the national convention, big enough that we can't be ignored. This isn't just about winning an election, this is about reshaping the Democratic party into an organization that serves the interest of the PEOPLE instead of the interests of corporations.

The mainstream Party machine is behind the mainstream candidates. WE need to make OUR voices heard, getting a Kucinich delegate block is THE way to do it!

Imho, the ONLY "strategic" vote at this point is a vote for Dennis!

5. good to see that DK has shamed some of the elite whoreMedia into....
...admitting that they have deliberately marginalized him.

I have been angry at DK and have shifted away from his camp, and I hate how he has allowed his media projection to taint progressivism. But when the Texas primary rolls around, I will vote for him.

7. "Croppies Who Will Not Lie Down"
The traditional singer Frank Harte wrote a song 'Croppies Who Will Not Lie Down' that I think describes us DKers very well (and it's only by accident that DK is RC and 'croppies' a derisive term used by the Orangemen). Here are a few of the verses:

Oh I know a man at the edge of our town.
His mind is befuddled by the love of a crown.
He's a drunk and a bore, he will rant and will roar
At those croppies who will not lie down.

Chorus:
Those croppies who will not lie down, ah,
When all's said and done, y'know, freedom is won
By the croppies who will not lie down.

Now on England's fair shore there are people galore
Whose greatest delight is Diana's new gown.
They have minds filled with trash, they accept Maggie's lash
And curse croppies who will not lie down."

(Ch)

On the streets of Soweto, the cry it is heard
And the poor white man's forehead is creased with a frown
For it's not what he planned and he can't understand
Why those croppies they will not lie down."

(Ch)

And the students who sat in Tiananmen Square
And gazed at the troops with their tanks and then dared.
And sat while the bullets did echo all 'round
Like croppies who would not lie down.

(Ch)

And the brave Guilford 4 in their cold prison cells,
Watched fifteen long years going 'round and around.
While no judge would listen to the truth they did tell,
Like croppies who will not lie down.

(Ch)

So here's to the women and here's to the men
In every land, every village and town
Who know what is right and continue to fight,
Like croppies who will not lie down.

(Ch)

(Background note: the 'Croppies who will not lie down' is a reference to the Orange traditional song 'Croppies Lie Down' which, if your stomach is strong, you can find at http://ingeb.org/songs/wesoldie.html The tune is very boring too.)
