Democrats Blast Republicans on Job Losses

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats said on Saturday Republicans were trying to mask the loss of U.S. jobs and accused them of "putting profits before people."
In the Democrats' weekly radio address, Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio said the country is "hemorrhaging good-paying manufacturing jobs at a record pace" of 2.8 million over the past three years," and said the nation "faces a growing crisis of confidence."
Instead of providing solutions, Ryan said President Bush and his economic team "have been trying to create illusions," even raising the possibility of redefining manufacturing to include fast food workers to reduce the manufacturing job loss numbers.
U.S. manufacturers and farmers "will be hit even harder" on Monday, Ryan said, when the European Unions begins to apply sanctions because of a trade dispute over U.S. export subsidies.
