Bush pledged to back ban in Nov., Musgrave aide says

By Bill Straub, Scripps Howard News Service
February 28, 2004

WASHINGTON - President Bush pledged to Rep. Marilyn Musgrave that he would support her proposed constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage three months before he made Tuesday's public pronouncement, according to Musgrave's top aide.

The White House has said Bush made the decision only after officials in San Francisco and New Mexico presided over same-sex marriages.

Guy Short, Musgrave's chief of staff, said Musgrave discussed her Federal Marriage Amendment with the president during a Nov. 24 trip aboard Air Force One to Fort Carson, where Bush visited troops and met with survivors of military personnel killed in Iraq.

"She flew back to Colorado with him, and he indicated he would be supportive of the amendment and her language," Short said. A week earlier, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court had ordered the state legislature to either permit gay couples to wed or adopt a constitutional amendment prohibiting the practice. The legislature, unable to reach an agreement, has yet to respond.

On Jan. 31, speaking to GOP House and Senate members attending a retreat in Philadelphia, Bush endorsed the amendment and, according to Short, expressed "support for Marilyn's language."

2. There's no doubt a republican is lying with this revelation
What sad pathetic humans they are. Musgrave was ABC's Person of the week and proclaimed herself a good christian so it couldn't possibly be her or her COS who is lying. But wait! bush is a good christian too. Thank God they can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Probably hard to google because the 'Person of the Week' is in the graphic, not text.

6. Thanks so much! Now:
"'She believes America is in a culture war. She is deeply opposed to gay marriage, though she wouldn't say why.

"'I do have an opinion on the issue, but I don't think that it's appropriate to bring that into this arena because I'm not a minister. I'm a lawmaker, and I function as one. When people Medicare or prescription drug benefits, no one wants to delve into their souls,' she said.

"Musgrave thinks her proposed amendment might not stop at gay marriage.

"'I really think that if we redefined marriage, if we blur those lines of the definition of marriage that the next step is polygamy or group marriage.'"

I think this woman hasn't the slightest clue about what she started. I wonder, too, if some Dobsonite or equivalent didn't secretly lobby her until she said "fine, I'll introduce it." Not that she doesn't believe in it; it's clear that she's an ignorant bigot to the core.

Christ. These people are as monstrous as slave owners and, like the slave owners, they don't even know it.

3. I think KKKarl is losing his marbles.
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people." - attributed to H. L. Mencken

Maybe so, but it's beginning to appear that winning a national election is another kettle of fish-like substitute.

aWol's image is degrading weekly, daily, sometimes hourly. Way to go, KKKarl.

7. This shows that Rove had decided on gay marriage as a wedge
issue sometime last year. They had the Congress-scum woman draft a bill which Rove approved. The only thing they were uncertain of was the timing on when they'd initiate their agenda.

As soon as the SF & MA "gay attacks on married couples" occurred, they seized the moment and launched their pre-planned assault. It's the same strategy they used on tax cuts, the illegal war in Iraq and every other POS they've tried: formulate an idealogical plan FIRST, then wait for an opportunity - any opportunity - to launch the plan, framing it as a "bold response" by the idiot-in-thief to current events.

These people are as sick as they are evil.

9. Yep- remember the 'product launch' comment?
About the Iraq War Resolution- somebody in the admin (Card?) said that you don't launch a new product in August. I guess they decided the period after New Years was appropriate for a 'product launch' also.
