Eight charged over loyalist killing of Kevin McDaid

Eight men aged between 18 and 50 will appear in court later todaycharged in connection with the sectarian murder of a Catholic youth worker in Northern Ireland.

One of those to be charged is understood to be former member of the Ulster Defence Association's political wing.

The eight, who will appear at Ballymena magistrates court, face charges of murder, attempted murder and various assaults.

Another local Catholic man, Damien Fleming, 46, remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked close to where Kevin McDaid was murdered.

My thought is that most of these morans do not even really understand why they are fighting anymore - they just know innate hate.

2. If the legal system can mete out justice

without intervention by the old vigilante systems, then we may know northern ireland's turned a corner. The life of Kevin McDaid, God rest his soul, won't be lost wholly in vain if only this horror isn't taken as provocation for retribution.
