Anti-communist protestors outside Orange County Vietnamese newspaper deemed public nuisance
Source: Mercury News

An Orange County jury has decided against three anti-communist protestors who have staged a months-long picket outside a Vietnamese-language daily newspaper.

The jury ruled Tuesday that protestors Trong Doan, Ky Ngo and Cung Tran are liable for trespassing and causing a nuisance.

The civil trial now moves to the penalty phase in Orange County Superior Court.

The protesters have been demonstrating outside the Nguoi Viet Daily News since January 2008, when the paper ran a photo of a foot spa painted in the colors of the South Vietnamese flag.

The picketers say the photo was disrespectful to the thousands of Vietnamese who fled their homeland during the Vietnam War.

The Vietnamese community is a volatile bunch when it comes to issues dealing with south Vietnam.

the example in the show talks about a council member from the Vietnamese community that was elected via popular support, but when she chose to name a region in that area Saigon business district instead of Little Saigon, the locals went crazy and branded her has a commie sympathizer.

Apparently the omission of the word "little" is a cultural slant against those from South Vietnam.

She was once hailed as the golden child but because she didn't do as the local leaders demanded, she was harassed. She chose to use just Saigon business district name based on both the concerns of the locals and of the regions business leaders.

Another example was a Vietnamese pop star that put out a poster for a concert coming up. But because the poster featured his name on a belt buckle, which contained the letter "O" with a star in it, the locals once again, branded him a commie. Why?
apparently the lettering was in red, and the star in question, although was white in color, the protesters said it was yellow. So yellow star on a red background = commie. I know, when people get a lather going, rational thought goes out the window.

I am reminded of the first generation cubans who used these same tactics in florida back in the 70's and 80's.

These local leaders exhibit a bit of thuggery when branding people they don't agree with as commies thus vilifying them in the publics eye. A mini Tammany hall.

ANTI-COMMUNIST SOUTH VIETNAMESE FLAG?

There is no 'South Vietnam' anymore, so a South Vietnamese flag MUST be representative of the anti-communist south.

somebody's kinda confused.

EDIT: OK, I was confused. They thought the depictions was disrespectful of their flag.

I guess what threw me was them getting upset about the flag symbology being used for a commercial product - like they've never seen THAT done in America.
