Bush Charge on Iraq Arms Had Doubters, House Told (NYT)
Bush Charge on Iraq Arms Had Doubters, House Told
By DAVID E. SANGER and CARL HULSE

ASHINGTON, July 8 — The State Department told a Congressional committee today that seven days after President Bush gave his State of the Union address, in which he charged that Saddam Hussein was trying to purchase uranium in Africa, American diplomats warned the International Atomic Energy Agency that the United States could not confirm the reports.

The State Department letter provided to Representative Henry A. Waxman, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Government Reform, confirms that there were deep misgivings in the government about some intelligence Mr. Bush cited in his January speech.

On Monday the White House said for the first time that the evidence that Iraq sought nuclear fuel in Africa was not credible enough, and should not have been included in the president's remarks.

Nonetheless, White House officials declined today to reveal how the charge made it into Mr. Bush's speech. And they argued, in further statements that went beyond those issued from Air Force One on Monday, that the uranium issue was one of many pieces of evidence indicating that Iraq was seeking to reconstitute a nuclear weapons program.

1. OK, now that we've confirmed the uranium sale was a LIE...
let's move on to the infamous "aluminum tube" allegations. Or is it too early yet?

9. There's no truth to that either - MSNBC
Don't know why, but was watching Olberman, who was interviewing someone (can't remember her name) who stated the "tubes" are the next likely thing to be called into question. She said there were LOTS of doubts about them. She expected another CIA person to come out and start to corroborate. I hope she's right.

8. Delay suddenly has a soft spot for liars
I'm sure he would remind us that the unelected lout was not under oath at the time and that "the truth" would eventually be written by historians so we have no business discussing it anyway.

10. let's move on to the plagairized CA graduate student's thesis,
that was written on Iraq more than 12 years ago...powell used that document in his UN speech....stole a student's work and pretended that it was his own....that will get you expelled from most Universities...plus it was OLD, stuff on Iraq from way before the Gulf War 1.....

luckily, the California graduate student recognized his thesis...they copied it exactly line for line....what a bunch of crooks...

that whole crappy justification for war was totally wrong way before the war started...

and since June 1st...the missing WMD problem has been BIG in news media all over the country....

and now, the LIES about the WMD... a whole new level....
