RNC uses controversial 'Daisy' ad to target Obama
Source: CNN

The Republican National Committee Friday unearthed one of the most controversial political ads in American history to take aim at President Obama's decision to close the detention center in Guantanamo Bay.

Called "Daisy," The RNC's new 30-second Web ad uses footage of the now-infamous 1964 Lyndon Johnson commercial by the same name that showed a young girl picking off the pedals of a flower as a nuclear explosion is heard in the background.

That ad, which only ran once but was widely criticized as being extreme, ends with the image of a mushroom crowd and Johnson declaring, "We must either love each other, or we must die."

The New RNC ad splices the image of the girl with Obama's earlier declaration suggesting that closing Guantanamo Bay is "easy." This time the girl asks "To close it? To close it not?" as she picks off flower pedals.

Scumsuckers - and some Dems in congress are playing right in to their hands. Reid should have the backbone to stand up to them.

How the FUCK is not torturing them going to kill us all?

Fuck these assholes and their tired old black and white McCarthyesque values bullshit that stays in some "Happy Days" version of the 1950s and early 60s.

5. Oh good grief! They say an elephant never forgets, but waiting
45 years to get revenge over a commercial? And a lame attempt at that! How does moving into a maximum security military prison constitute "release into the United States"?

What do the Repukes have to gain by keeping it open? I do not think people are afraid of housing these guys in US prisons. And if people are afraid of that, they're likely to be irrational Repukes already. I guess this follows the rest of their path about narrowing their base to the extreme.

16. The ad is a typically incompetent GOP ad.

The ad is so gutless that it can't even show the mushroom cloud from the original Johnson ad, even though it's a web ad, which means they have no space limit and can make the ad as long as they want. In other words, they're cowards.

To compare:

New GOP ad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7qkEholuT8

Original Johnson ad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKs-bTL-pRg

Speaking purely politically, if the GOP had any political brains they would be attacking Obama for negotiating with a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran. Instead they are now trying to say that closing Gitmo will cause America to be nuked, which is ridiculous and politically inarticulate. This has about as much dexterity as trying to eat an ice cream cone by slamming it into your forehead. This is why the GOP can't win on foreign policy. Another example of GOP incompetence is their constant trying to claim that Democrats are "French."
